The Sleepwalkers is one of the most thorough books I have recently read. It attempts to describe and make sense of the factors that led to WWI. The author attempts to discover the real causes beyond the notion that the war was inevitable. It’s a nearly impossible task that I think Christopher Clark does quite well. His findings do not provide a clear or simple answer but it is comprehensive and much better than the tired tropes we learned about in high school history class. […]
Wherein we find out even more about Stoker’s past
Spoiler warning! This is book three in a series, and as such, this review may spoil details from the two earlier books. If you want to start at the beginning, A Curious Beginning is the first book. Veronica Speedwell and her colleague and sometime partner in crime-solving, Stoker (Revelstoke Templeton-Vane) are alerted to the fact that Stoker may well come under public scrutiny in a criminal case. John de Morgan, Stoker’s former best friend and one time expedition partner, the man who ended up marrying Stoker’s ex-wife after […]
A Bit Late to the Party on This One, But Still Relevant
I have had this book on my iPad forever! Seriously, I think I downloaded it before 13th, the Netflix documentary, was even a development idea. I watched 13th last year, and yet it didn’t spur me to pick this up, but after reading The Hate U Give, this felt like a fitting follow up. I remember being very impressed by 13th, but the nice thing about reading this, is that it really gave me the chance to absorb and contemplate everything, rather than being hit […]
Choices and Second Chances
Kate is the oldest daughter in her slightly untraditional family. She and her siblings are all named after Shakespeare characters, something she can blame on her actress mother. While the rest of the family doesn’t care about the loss of status they never enjoyed, Kate dreams of reuniting the two branches of the family, being accepted as a […]

While at a club, he notices Lydia, who is a kept woman currently being provided for by Roanoke. Lydia also has a goal in mind. While Roanoke may not […]
If Austen Had Included Sex Scenes, This May Have Been the Result
After seeing several glowing reviews of this novel on the Cannonball blog, and being in need of a new romance author, I ended up picking this one up and quickly following it up with the other two novels of the trilogy. Despite that, I couldn’t quite figure out how to review this one, because every time I thought of certain things to say, I felt like I was insulting other romance novels which wasn’t my intent. Several other authors also add complexity to their characters, […]
