THIS REVIEW: might not be a popular opinion. But it is mine after this reading of it.

When Sadness Is at Your Door by Eva Eland

January 15, 2019 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

This is going to be a very popular book. It is going to win awards for context and for the illustrations. It will be talked about, promoted and probably go out of stock for a while at vendors/publisher. If you have not read this book people are going to think you have two heads. And it is going to be one of those books that if you do not like it, people will think something is wrong with you. BUT do not be afraid to say […]

Well, I WAS With You

I’m With Fatty by Edward Ugel

January 6, 2019 by octothorp Leave a Comment

I made it rain at the friends of the library book sale just prior to my annual promise not to buy more books until I read everything in my unread stack (almost always 50 books no matter what I do), and like any good binge it was all impulse. I love personal challenge essays (see above – although I will never ever succeed in diminishing that unread stack, my novels apparently breed in captivity) and for two bucks, how bad could this be? (How many […]

A sweet little book about walking

December 29, 2018 by tillie Leave a Comment

Walk is a book that attempts to expand the simple act of walking. Written in short vignettes Radford describes everything from breathing, to tempo, to using the senses in a different way while walking. All of this is meant to transform walking from a simple mode of transportation, but rather take advantage of the slowness in walking as a sort of meditative state. Included in the book are loads of exercises that are pretty easy to do, it doesn’t require many tools and while it […]

How to Find and Incorporate Plant-based Proteins into Your Diet

December 2, 2018 by The Chancellor Leave a Comment

Clean Protein: A Revolution for Your Body and Our Planet by Kathy Freston My rating: 3 of 5 stars I had just read a book that was all about how protein is important for our diets and we should be eating more of it. Yet it didn’t discuss how vegetarians are supposed to meet this goal. Then I came across “Clean Protein” in my library and thought that this would be a great resource, since the cleanest proteins are plant-based. I was sadly disappointed in […]

A Mishmash of Stuff

November 27, 2018 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: Someone looking for a few more tips and suggestions on how to really take care of yourself. In a nutshell: Sisters Nadia and Katia have ideas that they’d like to share with you, ostensibly organized into six categories (but not really). Worth quoting: “It’s not so much about what you’re eating as how you’re eating it. Are you eating from a place of love and nourishment? Or out of punishment, or ideas of good and bad?” Why I chose it: It looked pretty. […]

An Interesting Theory for Food and Exercise

November 26, 2018 by The Chancellor Leave a Comment

“25Days” is different from a lot of other health books I’ve read. It starts with the story of how the author, Drew Logan, ended up dying three times in the same day due to his heart not beating. Due to so many times with lack of circulation, he suffered some short-term memory loss. This created problems for Drew as he couldn’t remember his workouts and diets. To counter this problem, he started investigating our brain and how it relates to our behavior. This, in turn, […]
