Feels a Bit Like Filler, But I Still Loved It

March 6, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

I have to say the art in these graphic novels showing how our Roland becomes the Gunslinger that many long time King fans know and love is awesome. In issue #4 out of 7 in the first part of the series we have Roland and Susan admitting that something is between them and Roland falls in love. Of course long time readers know what is going to be happening next right? Cause if you don’t, I say look away. I am actually a bit nervous […]

Ta-Nehisi Coates’ second Black Panther outing

March 5, 2017 by bonnie Leave a Comment

I was highly intrigued by Ta-Nehisi Coates’ take on the Black Panther comics, and now that the first volume is done, he can get to work. I was interested in seeing how Wakanda would get developed as a world and how T’Challa would face the challenges ahead. I believe there is plenty of room to expand and many, many stories to tell from this series, and I hope that Coates continues to write more comics. I think he’s found a groove with the comic genre, […]

Again maybe it’s just unfair for me to review books like this

March 4, 2017 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

Oh, Oh the Moon. I guess I hate whimsy and preciousness. I really must hate them both. Because. Because when I read things like this I have the feelings that someone is messing with me. It’s the same kind of feeling of when someone starts telling you about their self-published book or their one-person show. And you see it all as a test, right. It’s a test to see if you can tell if you are the star of their one-person show and the joke is […]

Squirrels as Superheroes Makes for Nut Puns Galore

February 26, 2017 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

3.5 stars. There’s a lot to like here: girl power, a not super sexy heroine, and a superhero trying to be normal as a college student. Doreen really wants to do the college thing, including boys, clubs, etc. But she’s not doing it to be normal; she just want to know computer science stuff (that would be her major, although I’m not sure why she chose it).  More of this part of her story would be helpful, since a good portion of the book is […]

I LOVE SPACE

February 26, 2017 by Halbs Leave a Comment

Here is how much I love space: When I die, I want my casket to be launched into the sun. Earlier this week I was sitting on the couch, tending my whiskey and watching The Expanse. Mrs. Halbs asked me why I love space so much. “Look at it! That’s where God is,” I said. Maybe that’s it. I love the majesty and wonder and awe of the cosmos. How something can be so grand and lonely and beautiful and mysterious – I like thinking about that. So, […]

Archie cover

Wherein they ditch the jalopy and I’m okay with it

February 18, 2017 by J 2 Comments

As a kid, I was as likely to beg my mom to buy me an Archie Comic as a candy bar in the checkout line. She would buy them even when I didn’t ask and then I’d have to wait for her to finish to wrest each new double digest from her. More than once, I contemplated sending away for the fan club advertised in the back pages. I loved the whole crew. Archie. Betty. Midge and Moose. Rare appearances by Valerie! I loved the […]
