I was worried when I found this in the Little Free Library

July 8, 2017 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

So I was both excited and scared when I saw this in the Little Free Library. I grew up LOVING the Far Side. I had t-shirts, I had wall calendars, I had a bunch of the books, and I used to basically just examine them to try to work out the jokes, try to catch the references, try to figure out what was going on both in terms of the jokes. So when I saw this, the problem was that this was potentially fraught: what […]

Xoxoxoe’s Wonderful Graphic Novel

July 7, 2017 by Caitlin_D 4 Comments

Disclaimer: I received a copy of Unfinished through a CBR giveaway in return for a prompt and honest review. First of all, I unabashedly love Marilyn Monroe. While this makes me a prime candidate for anything involving the ’50s sexpot I am not usually a big fan of graphic novels. I tend to want more information than the format allows but Unfinished is vibrant & beautiful without sacrificing details. Elizabeth Periale, our own xoxoxoe, combines well researched facts and quotes with inferred internalized dialog and colorful illustrations. The structure […]

Eh.

I decided to review Wild Card and Ghoul Goblin together, because they are a good contrast in what you should and shouldn’t do when expanding a series into graphic novels. Wild Card This is my first foray into The Dresden Files comic book universe. Wild Card takes place after White Night. if you are new to the Dresden Files, this is not the place to start. Someone is trying to destabilize Chicago. They want the police to think the White Court is killing humans, the White Court to […]

Introducing Your New Thor

July 5, 2017 by Emmalita 8 Comments

“There must always be a Thor.” Towards the end of Original Sin, white Nick Fury whispered a secret into Thor’s ear, which caused him to drop Mjolnir on the moon. Goddess of Thunder opens with the fallout of a Thor who no longer holds the power of Thor. I haven’t come across Roxxon Corporation as a direct antagonist much in the Marvel Comic Universe, so I’m not sure if Thor and Roxxon have a special relationship, or if this is something new for a new, Midgard-born […]

I Swoop in Like an Ethically Diverse Knight

July 4, 2017 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Joe Kelly’s Deadpool isn’t my favorite Deadpool. He comes after Duggan and Posnehr’s Deadpool and after Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool, but any Deadpool is pretty great. Especially when he’s making Spider-Man nuts with his bromance. Deadpool and Spider-Man are just hanging around. The Merc with the Mouth is mouthing off and Spidey wishes he would just shut up. Naturally Deadpool got Spider-Man into some kind of mess, because no one goes anywhere willingly with Wade Wilson. So now they are hanging upside down and being threatened […]

The Best of the Dini/Timm Batverse

July 3, 2017 by Halbs 2 Comments

Growing up, Batman was my guy thanks to Batman: The Animated Series. I loved the look and the mood of the show. Two guys largely responsible for that landmark show are writer Paul Dini and illustrator Bruce Timm. The third member of that B:TAS trinity is voice director Andrea Romano, who gave us our definitive Batman – Kevin Conroy. The success of the animated show translated well back into comics, many of which have been collected and reviewed by me in The Batman Adventures.  Dini […]
