Secondary Characters Get the Spotlight in iZombie 2

October 23, 2017 by Halbs Leave a Comment

The show iZombie is a lot of fun, and the comic is also fun, but different than the show that took its name. Volume one of the comic introduced us to the world of Gwen, the zombie protagonist who has to eat brains to survive. Luckily, she works as a grave digger and has easier access than most to the gray matter goods. Gwen is friends with a 1960s ghost and a nerdy were-terrier (like a werewolf, but cuter).  In volume 2, Gwen takes a […]

Jonah Hex Visits Gotham!

October 18, 2017 by Halbs Leave a Comment

I like comic books, and I like westerns, but I haven’t read many comic book westerns. I was recently browsing my local library and stumbled upon DC’s All Star Western series, so of course I had to give it a go. This trade paperback provides a lot of bang for the buck. You get an entire Jonah Hex in Gotham story, as well as stories featuring The Barbary Ghost and El Diablo. Finally, the back pages feature sketches of all of the main characters.  I didn’t […]

Super Sons Vol. 1 When I Grow Up by Peter Tomasi

One for the pull list

October 17, 2017 by J 3 Comments

Oh, wow, this was a lot of fun! Because I don’t read a lot of Bat family books, I know the barest of facts about Damien Wayne. I know he’s Talia’s son by Bruce, that’s he’s the current Robin, he’s smart, and he’s a bit of a brat. I know even less about Jonathan Kent, son of Superman. (But a different Superman? Like an alternate universe Superman? I don’t know.) The two of them together? Magic. They bicker and press each other’s buttons like siblings. […]

Man Falls and Wildness Takes Over Again

October 12, 2017 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

Sometimes, at comic expos I decide that I can wear these deer antlers I have for no reason other than I feel like it. I usually pair this up with my regular everyday clothes (normally some kind of plaid flannel) and on my way I go! The last few times, however, I noticed for sale a comic series by the name of Sweet Tooth featuring a boy with deer antlers wearing a plaid shirt. And I think, “whoa, I unintentionally cosplayed!” Oh hey, I’m actually in that […]

Puppies and Grizzly Bears

October 7, 2017 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

I follow The Oatmeal (Matthew Inman) on Instagram and he recently annouced he had a new book coming out which inspired me to read some of his other works, I’ve only read How to Tell if You’re Cat is Plotting to Kill You. My local library had My Dog: The Paradox: A Lovable Discourse about Man’s Best Friend and Why Grizzly Bears Should Wear Underpants available so I took a break from more strenuous literature and spent an evening reading adult comics.   My Dog: The Paradox, a lovely ode […]

I’m Already Dead

October 5, 2017 by Halbs Leave a Comment

Like all professional, well-adjusted thirtysomethings, I spend much of my free time watching the CW television network. Gossip Girl, Arrow, Flash, Reign, Jane the Virgin. What more could a guy need?  While I was an early(ish) adopter of Veronica Mars and have read more than one Rob Thomas (the Veronica Mars creator, not the matchbox 20 singer) book, for some reason I was late to the game to his show iZombie. Why? I don’t know. Fortunately, my wife was not. She was all over iZombie […]
