A Satanic Conspiracy of Skinny

July 10, 2014 by Valyruh Leave a Comment

This novel would be downright silly, if it weren’t so darned sweet. The premise of The Program is that Satan has launched a miraculous weight-loss program designed to ensnare the souls of millions of sad women who have been brainwashed into believing that curves mean fat, and fat means unsexy and unloveable. And so Lovett takes on the obsession with weight that dominates the world’s media,  entertainment industry, fashion industry, and bedrooms around the globe, and presents us with a different reality, one in which […]

Best Book of the Year

July 8, 2014 by UniverseInMe 1 Comment

This is the second book in the Raven’s Shadow series.  There is need to worry about the follow up not being as good as the first book- I think it’s even better.  The first book in this series was from Vaelin’s perspective.  In this book Anthony Ryan tried to pull off a George RR Martin and write chapters dedicated to different characters perspective.  Even with the typical end of chapter cliff hanger…well, George needs to take a lesson, because this is how it should be done!  All interesting perspectives, great writing, superb […]

The beginning of a GREAT EPIC fantasy!

July 8, 2014 by UniverseInMe Leave a Comment

I read this book a few years ago (before I started participating in Cannonball Read).  The second book was about to come out, so I decided to re-read the first one, since I didn’t have a detailed review.  Reading this book was like putting on a comfortable pair of pants.  The writing is beautiful, the story is engaging and original.  If you are a fan of Patrick Rothfuss or Peter V Brett, then I’d bet you will love this series as well.  I give this […]

Yet another wonderful series I missed reading as a child.

July 8, 2014 by narfna 8 Comments

Because I listen to audiobooks when I’m in the car, I went for a drive yesterday evening just to finish this series. Time and gas well spent. Really enjoyed making my way through this series over the last month and a half. Some of the best children’s fantasy I’ve read. Wish I would’ve read it as an actual child. And with one notable exception (which I’m not sure would have actually changed for me all that much if I’d read it the old fashioned way […]
