Baby Jesus Butt Plug

August 5, 2014 by aneyka 1 Comment

Yeah… Well… This book exists.   As I was browsing through my favorite online bookshop I noticed this little gem of a title. After I giggled about it for a few minutes, I promptly forgot it existed. Luckily I received the book for Christmas, as proof that my friends do indeed know me well. To answer your question, yes, the book is about baby Jesus butt-plugs, which is apparently also a legit sex toy. The plot involves a couple buying baby Jesus and despite it […]

California Bones – Not your usual heist novel

August 5, 2014 by anevilweasel Leave a Comment

California Bones –  Urban Fantasy – I bought this after I met the author at the San Diego Comic Con panel on Urban Fantasy. I had been thinking of reading it for a couple of weeks, and actually meeting the author and getting his autograph pushed me to get a “hardcopy” rather than a digital version. So this is basically a heist novel, albeit a very unusual one.   Takes place in an alternate version of California. In this California, magic is carried in […]

Dresden Files in short story format

August 2, 2014 by Valyruh Leave a Comment

This collection of stories from Butcher’s famous The Dresden Files are a nice discovery for someone who thought she had read all of Harry Dresden’s adventures and had to sit and twiddle her thumbs until Butcher’s inspiration—or publisher—next strikes. The stories range from Butcher’s first-ever Dresden story written as a college assignment to a post-Harry reminiscence, of a sort, by his would-be lover. The thing that makes these stories such fun is that they are written from various perspectives, including that of his enigmatic vampire […]

Alexandro Jodorowsky’s Screaming Planet

July 31, 2014 by Vylotte Leave a Comment

Alexandro Jodorowsky is a genius, I have no doubt. He’s also absolutely bat sh*t insane. Which leads to some truly intense writing, and even more so vision.   Screaming Planet is a set of stories (but for one) created for Metal Hurlant, a French anthology series along the lines of Heavy Metal. The screaming planet of the title is an asteroid from a long ruined planet that streaks through the universe, passing its sorrow to those sentient creatures it feels a kinship with.   As […]

Harper Blaine died and came back and all she got were these crummy nebulous powers

July 31, 2014 by Malin Leave a Comment

After private investigator Harper Blaine wakes up in the hospital after apparently being legally dead for two minutes, she thinks she must be having hallucinations. Her world seems to get blurry, with grey mist, strange creatures and scary monsters more and more frequently. She is told to consult a university professor and his wife, who tell her that she’s a Greywalker now. There is a nebulous dimension close to ours, between the human world and the after life, and those like Harper, who have been […]

A runaway princess, a jilted prince and an assassin walk into a tavern…

July 31, 2014 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars I finished this book nearly two weeks ago, and will therefore use the summary from Goodreads to explain the plot. Getting old and senile here, peeps. In a society steeped in tradition, Princess Lia’s life follows a preordained course. As First Daughter, she is expected to have the revered gift of sight – but she doesn’t – and she knows her parents are perpetrating a sham when they arrange her marriage to secure an alliance with a neighbouring kingdom – to a prince […]
