Better than Book 1

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

December 7, 2024 by Ellesfena Leave a Comment

(Since this is a sequel, there will be spoilers for the end of Book 1 in here) My review of the first book was titled “Better Than Fourth Wing,” and this one was miles better than Book 1, so I guess maybe I actually liked this one? So Feyre has conquered Amarantha, rescued Tamlin and the rest of the Fae, and is now back in the Spring Court trying to reconcile all of this good news with the very, very bad things she had to […]

A cozy paranormal romance for the holidays~

Clara, Darling by Chace Verity

December 6, 2024 by LB Leave a Comment

Chace Verity is one of my absolute fave authors, and they’ve held that title since their debut, Team Phison, so any time they have a new release I get all excited. Clara, Darling is a holiday (Christmas) novella, but unlike Verity’s previous Christmas story (Team Phison Forever), this has much less family trauma and is almost dream-like in its story tell. Sadie has been married to Alvin for ten years, but in all that time she’s never forgotten her best friend and first love, Clara. […]

December 6, 2024 by BlackRaven 1 Comment

Thank you Pooja for this amazing holiday gift. I can’t wait to read!!! I am not familiar with Goblin Market, so this will be a real treat.  (And if I’ve already posted, sorry, I have a memory like a cheap Swiss Cheese!

Cover of Blood of Hercules

Greek gods + The Hunger Games, but so much worse

Blood of Hercules by Jasmine Mas

December 5, 2024 by J 3 Comments

I am in a bit of a slump, and this seemed passably interesting. The cover is pretty and Hoopla tells me it’s popular? Set in the future, which, it must be said, sucks. Titans have emerged (from where?) to murder humanity, prompting Spartans (collective name for Greek Olympians) to reveal themselves after millennia in hiding in order to dispatch them. Spartans—you and I know them as Olympians-have their own internal conflict which forces the losing district (Chthonics) to serve as the Titan death squad. Anyway, […]

A Dark Academia Masterpiece

Blood Over Bright Haven by M. L. Wang

December 4, 2024 by Tracy 1 Comment

I literally just finished reading this, and wow — what a compelling read! I learned from reading Wang’s first book, Sword of Kaigen, that she is not afraid to do terrible things to her characters or to break your heart without fully mending it, and she does that again here. This dark academia novel primarily follows Sciona, who early in the novel becomes the first female High Mage of the city of Tiran. There’s a lot of sexism in this world and she is not […]

More Pirates than Tea or Tomes

A Pirate's Life for Tea by Rebecca Thorne

November 27, 2024 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Teas and Tomes is officially a series. I saw the sequel to Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea, A Pirate’s Life for Tea at the airport, and it’s a decent light travel/beach/need a mental break read. There’s two plot threads: first, Reyna and Kianthe have to find the dragon eggs they promised to find in the first book, and second (during that investigation) they get involved in local politics by agreeing to capture a river pirate who has been annoying the local diarn Arlon. Naturally, things […]
