They lobster the kelpcakes

Officer Clawsome V01 Kelpcake Crisis!   by Brain Smitty Smith

March 20, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

CBR15Passport  already own  As the description says of this Brain Smitty Smith graphic novel, Officer Clawsome: Kelpcake Crisis!  this is Dogman meets Spongebob. And if you like them, you will like this. There is a bit of “James Bond-like” elements with a few villains (there is a mechanical shark that has one heck of a bad diet…I mean eating garbage is one thing, but whole buildings?), but overall, everything is straight forward and not overly “sophisticated.” Then again, a talking lobster who is a former […]

Boards get the ATK Treatment but it’s Boring-ish

Boards: Stylish Spreads for Casual Gatherings by America's Test Kitchen, Elle Simone Scott

March 19, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

One more board book review because it’s birthday month and I found one in the library I’d eyed in the bookstore recently. I suppose it was only a matter of time that America’s Test Kitchen would get in on this trend, especially since the whole board thing has lasted more than a year with Boards: Stylish Spreads for Casual Gatherings. One of the main things I like about them is that the whole premise of ATK is to figure out not just what works, but […]

Have a cup of tea? Don’t mind if I have three

The Tea Dagon Society Book One by K. O’Neill

The Tea Dragon Festival #2 by K. O’Neill

The Tea Dragon Tapestry (Tea Dragon, #3) by K. O’Neill

March 17, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have the goal of reading all of K. O’Neill’s works. It has been a little tricky as they have gone by at least Kate O’Neill and Kay O’Neill as well. But with the finishing of the third book in the Tea Dragon Society series, I might have made it. This is a big deal as (until a few years ago when posthumously her second book came out) Harper Lee might have been the only author with that honor. I came to The Tea Dagon […]

The Board Food Trend Is Still With Us

Beautiful Boards by Maegan Brown

March 12, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader 2 Comments

Birthday month is here again, and I’m going to try a new food-board book; Beautiful Boards has a lot of pretty pictures, and it’s pretty good at explaining how to get the actual looks. There’s a lot to like, both for the content of the boards as well as the set-up. There is some general guidance for putting together your own ideas, like for X number of people X amount of Y types of cheeses, general timelines for preparing and setting out and serving different […]

Food for the eyes

Feast of Peas by Kashmira Sheth

March 10, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When reading a couple books at lunch I notoced a theme. Food. I guess I was hungry to devor a good book (or two) as well as a good sandwhich (which was so-so, had too many red onions, but the books were tasty). : In Feast of Peas, our main man Jiva looks forward to a feast when his garden peas are ready for the picking. Unfortunately, when it is time to pick, they have disappeared! And nothing he does will stop the mysterious thief, […]

Get the tacos!

Dragons Love Tacos 2: The Sequel by Adam Rubin

March 8, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I remember reading, and liking, Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. However, as I was reading Dragons Love Tacos 2: The Sequel (still by Rubin) I did not remember a ding-darn thing! And while you can read these two books separately, it does help if you know the first book as there are a few things referenced in book two that are “need to knows.” This time dragons are not eating tacos, as they have run out of tacos. And it is up to them, […]
