Are you a member of the tiny and shiny club?

Glitter Everywhere!: Where it Came From, Where It's Found & Where It's Going by Chris Barton

June 16, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am giving Glitter Everywhere!: Where it Came From, Where It’s Found & Where It’s Going is a 4.5. I started writing this review before I had officially finished (okay I was only a handful of pages in and already knew I was going to love it) as I was really excited about the Tiny and Shiny Club that I just had to stop what I was doing and tell you about beetles.  “WHOA! There!” I am sure you are saying, “Beetles? The title said […]

When you amass a trove of flavorful bits and pieces, dinner cooks itself

Piecemeal by Kathryn Pauline

June 14, 2023 by Emmalita 1 Comment

I think Piecemeal is going to be a useful cookbook that will encourage adaptation and experimentation. Kathryn Pauline gives a recipe for a component and then provides three recipes in increasing degrees of complexity that utilize that component. The components range from “leafy herbs” to “turkey spinach meatballs,” to “Mulled wine pears.” The sections are Vegetables, Meats, Dressings and Sauces, and Fruits, compotes, and curds. After the table of contents, Pauline has helpfully broken the recipes down by type so that if you are looking […]

Eat to nourish your body and soul

Eat to Love: A Mindful Guide to Transforming Your Relationship with Food, Body, and Life by Jenna Hollenstein

June 14, 2023 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So I’ve been on a non-diet journey for a few years now. I’ve been through a lot of diets in my years, and I know how harmful they are and how they do not work. I already will never diet again in my life. Because of that, some of this book was kinda old news for me. I’m familiar with “magical eating”, which is basically classifying foods as “good” and “bad”, focusing on calories and weight loss rather than how food makes you feel and […]

A mix of comics, video games, tabletop games, adventure cartoons

Digital Lizards of Doom Vol. 1 Digital Lizards of Doom by Gabriel Valentin

June 12, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Digital Lizards of Doom Vol. 1 Digital Lizards of Doom by Gabriel Valentin  feels as the age aimed for is ages eight and up, but there are several points that might not be good for the sensitive reader. I would recommend it for at least aged 10 and up, who like video games, offbeat humor, oddities, and not easily disturbed by fantasy action. It feels a bit stereotypically “boy driven,” but a few female characters come into things (though one is a villain, one might […]

A sleepy independent boba café, a not so sleepy secret

Super Boba Café V01 by Nidhi Chanani

June 12, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

A fun story that ends a smidgen abruptly was what I felt about Super Boba Café V01 by Nidhi Chanani.  However, this is (as the volume one notes) a graphic novel which is the first book and you know that there will be more to come because of that. Not to mention the very last page has that “dun dun dun” ending where, “That’s all … for now … Folks!” should be added. If you want to find out what that ending is, you need to […]

The Real Good Guys

Save Yourself!  by Bones Leopard

June 12, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Bad guys, monsters, heroes and lots of very pro-queer sentiments come together in this collection of Save Yourself!  Bones Leopard, along with illustrators, Kelly and Nichole Matthews, made a story that was both serious and hilarious all at the same time. Sometimes there felt to be some cliches (Bear would fit in with some Drag Queens I’ve seen with ze beard, fun tutu, large hair, and flamboyant manner), but I think the author is just trying to cover the rainbow of all types of queer […]
