The wild world of ramen, fireworks and gunpowder

The Asian Hall of Fame: The Discovery of Ramen by Phil Amara and Oliver Chin

The Asian Hall of Fame: The Discovery of Fireworks and Gunpowder by Phil Amara and Oliver Chin

September 11, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The curiosity was great within me and I had to find the other Phil Amara and Oliver Chin titles other than the chess one in The Asian Hall of Fame series. Therefore, I filled out my trusty interlibrary loan forms and found a library that could grant me my wish. And because of that, The Discovery of Ramen and The Discovery of Fireworks and Gunpowder are now checked off my TBR. These are picture books on two very different subjects, but both equally historical making. Probably most people have seen a fireworks show, know […]

Here for the poutine and creme brulee, but not so much most of the rest

Bosh! Meat by Henry Firth, Ian Theasby

September 10, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo 18: You Are Here I’m taking this bingo spot as an opportunity to look at a place I am at intellectually and culinarily with a certain type of trend; I’m kind of over the culinary fascination with plant-based meat, and the cookbooks this has spawned. I pre-ordered Bosh! Meat quite a while ago, and now that I’ve got it, I’m kind of over the main premise before I started; however, it turns out that a good chunk of the book actually doesn’t really deal […]

Funny and poignant just like her podcasts

Raw Dog by Jamie Loftus

September 3, 2023 by cosbrarian 1 Comment

I’m a big fan of Jamie Loftus’s work in the podcast sphere, so I’ve had a hold on the audio of RAW DOG since it came out. Finally it was my turn! Tragically, I had a weird download and some of the book was clipped out in the beginning. But I was too impatient to re-download and felt guilty hanging onto such a popular book for a long time. So I didn’t reread – it’s possible I missed some stuff. The book starts out with […]

Get your D&D on without D&D

Legends & Lattes V01: A Novel of High Fantasy and Low Stakes by Travis Baldree

Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins: Volume III by Jody Houser

September 1, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

If you are looking for a couple of books that allow you to get your D&D love on, but are not D&D, there are two books (well one book and one series) that can work. The first, is a novel that has been getting much attention. And I understand why Legends & Lattes V01 is a hit. Travis Baldree made a story that captures the elements of fantasy, humor and romance in a package that allows it to be accessible to non-readers and readers of […]

Cats, Ninja and a turnip called Jack

Kitten Ninja  by Colleen AF Venable

Lila and the Jack-O'-Lantern: Halloween Comes to America by Nancy Churnin

September 1, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I like Halloween, kittens, and graphic novels. I found two different books that fit all categories, but in stages; neither has all the things I like.  I read both via on line and both are future publications, though the second is due late September 2024 so soon. Kitten Ninja by Colleen AF Venable and Marcie Colleen is a graphic novel I read online. It is due in late February 2024, but will be worth the wait. It is a cute, younger aimed book for those who […]

I read some books. Here’s their reviews. Hope you like.

This is My Treehouse by Guillaume Gueraud

Sleepy Happy Capy Cuddles by Mike Allegra

Noura’s Crescent Moon by Zaina Khan

The Ever-Changing Earth by Grahame Baker-Smith

August 30, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am switching between my old links and new links of online reader copies. In my new links I have This is My Treehouse. It is a quiet, but busy, story about a child and the treehouse that is magical and can take them any place they want to go. It is a rocket and a pirate ship. It might be leaky and not that big, but it is what is needed. Guillaume Gueraud’s story is nice, but it was the illustrations of Alfred that […]
