I’d Eat at Chrissy Teigen’s House Any Day

August 22, 2017 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

I have been in a bit of a cooking slump. I am tired of my food and desperately missing having a roommate to share that responsibility with or even just tell me what she wants to eat on days I have no inspiration. In addition, leftovers hang around a lot longer, as a recipe that serves four will now last me four days as opposed to two or three. When I saw a review of Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings, billed as “food you’ll actually want to […]

I stand corrected af.

June 19, 2017 by Blingle Bells 4 Comments

Chrissy Teigen really is an absolute gift to the world, isn’t she? I’m really late to the party on that one. At some point I realized that I always click posts about her on any blog I follow despite having no special interest in her career or her husband John Legend’s. She just gradually floated into my consciousness as a delightful Twitter personality, but…I’m not even on Twitter. It was a weird situation. So when I saw Cravings here and there, well-reviewed, I figured why […]

My modern Italian feast experiment

March 12, 2017 by teresaelectro 4 Comments

After a year back in town, I finally sorted out my LAPL library card privileges. Much to my surprise, the Highland Park branch has a very extensive cookbook selection. I LOVE Italian food and culture, even minored in Italian at USC. As such, I immediately snagged the Giada’s Kitchen: New Italian Favorites off the shelf. I was never a big fan of her Food Network cooking show, but I do own a very nice skillet from her Target line. 🙂 The book is organized into the following sections: appetizers […]

Half Splash, Twice

December 28, 2016 by CoffeeShopReader 9 Comments

First, some shameless self-congratulations: Cannonball! I was originally thinking I could only do a half, which I signed up for, but here I am with a full 52! Yay me 🙂 OK, moving on. Steampunk Tea Party is probably the best Christmas present I’ve gotten in a long while. Long Live Book Exchange! It’s part cookbook, part photo book, and part short story collection. Each of the six chapters has a theme with recipes, excerpts from character voices, pictures of characters in elaborate costumes, pictures […]

Superfun Times, Vegan Style

December 27, 2016 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I like cookbooks, and I particularly like those by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. So naturally, I picked up her latest, The Superfun Times Vegan Holiday Cookbook. I am not vegan, but I lean in that direction, and I like cookbooks that A) don’t preach, and B) don’t use a lot of obscure ingredients or equipment. So far, I have read through the whole book, and worked my way through the Thanksgiving and Christmas recipes. The recipes themselves are up to Isa Chandra’s usual standard of yummy, […]

Books! All the Books!

December 16, 2016 by Beth Ellen 5 Comments

Thank you, thank you, thank you Mrs. Julien! I didn’t realize the other day that Katie totally gave us each other, but it’s worked out stupendously. I received a Slightly Dangerous by Mary Balogh the other day in ebook form (how I read most of my romances), and then came home yesterday to this lovely sight! I’ve wanted to read Uprooted for a couple of years now, and as a baker I love new cookbooks. Especially ones specifically designed for home baking at its best. […]
