A real look into sexism through humor and real life – no fuss, no muss

January 18, 2017 by postcardsandbooks 9 Comments

Although I am a somewhat recent convert into the world of strong female celebrity memoirs, I have recently read had 3 of them read to me by the authors through the fascinating experience that are audiobooks, and I must admit I have been converted. It’s always a breath of fresh air to have an intelligent woman talk to/at you for 4-6 hours about funny little anecdotes that may or may not carry some underlying lesson about the world. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have […]

Two stars for the memoir. Five stars for the moth joke.

Norm Macdonald isn’t for everyone. His laconic speech, his super-dry delivery, and his constant exclamations of “holy crow” are very much of a love or hate variety. I happen to love Norm and was very much looking forward to reading his fake memoir. And I want to be able to tell you that I loved it. But I didn’t. And I’m sad about it. Bunnybean gave this book to Mr Scoots for Christmas and he loved it. HE LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. We heard […]

Scary Stories for Adults

January 12, 2017 by Kitkat 2 Comments

When I was a kid, I was scared of my bathroom because I thought a monster lived behind the shower curtain.  The movie “Tremors” made me believe that a giant mutant worm from outer space was going to come through the floor and eat me.  I closed my door every night before I went to bed because I just knew something lurked in the hallway outside (it was the same thing that lived behind the shower curtain, incidentally). As an adult, I am scared that I […]

You Will Enjoy This Book Whether You’re Drunk or Not

January 8, 2017 by Kitkat Leave a Comment

Now that my husband has given up on the bottle of wine we were drinking and it’s up to me to take one for the team and get the rest of this Viognier down my gullet, I’m going to keep this short and sweet and say I LOVED Jessi Klein’s You’ll Grow Out of It and, if my buzzed recommendation isn’t enough to convince you to read the book, you should check out my (slightly less buzzed) book review on my blog. Cheers!

Stilettos, gossip, and a touch of murder

January 8, 2017 by genericwhitegirl 3 Comments

Okay, guys. I’m going to tell you the biggest secret I’ve discovered so far for 2017…It will get you reading more books, faster than ever. Read on if you want your mind blown…it’s…audiobooks. Okay, so maybe I’m a late bloomer on this one. But for real, y’all, this is a game changer. Just like cell phones, Myspace, Facebook, insert-anything-technological-here-that-I-discovered-years-after-everyone-else was. But hey! I just used a gif. Besides the few audiobooks I’ve heard on road trips, this was my first non-vacational audio book for my […]

If “American Gods” was written by a toddler on Ritalin

January 8, 2017 by Caitlin_D 2 Comments

This was another instance of I Want More (but maybe, a little differently!) Cory O’Brien retells popular and lesser known myths in a style that reads more “Internet blogging” (all the CAPS) than “published author.” It’s fun and entertaining for the first few, better known, myths but it gets old and makes some of the unfamiliar myths harder to read. There are also a lot of dick jokes. “So obviously the moral of the story is that the best way to deal with a rampaging psychopath […]
