I’ve always loved Kathy Griffin and this was a nice departure after My Grandfather Would of Shot Me. Kathy Griffin shares a verifiable “who’s who” including sexual deviants Woody Allen & President Trump, iconic songstress Stevie Nicks, acting legend Sidney Poitier and of course fellow gay icons Cher, Barbara Streisand and Liza Minelli. I think my favorite stories were Jeremy Irons, Harry Styles (with bonus Tom Hanks) and Renee Zellweger. She knows everyone. And everyone, for better or worse, knows her. And a lot of celebrities love her- particularly aging […]
It took 4 years for this book to come out — I can’t wait til the next one!!
Oh my God you guys how long am I going to have to wait for a sequel to this book? I am glad that I waited as long as I did to pick up Rook, but then I loved it and immediately read Stiletto and now I’m just sitting here. Spoilers for the first book! “You’re a tool, to be used and directed for the good of the people. Sometimes you’ll be a scalpel, cutting out disease. Sometimes you’ll be a sword, and you’ll take […]
It’s true — you’re not Mark Ruffalo
So this was kind of stupid, but in a fun way. Dave Horwitz & Marisa Pinson apparently started it as a blog, which I’ve never heard of, but their Upright Citizen’s Brigade credentials got me to pick it up. Their early deal-breaker that stated, “You’re not Mark Ruffalo” (“Look, we’ve tried everything, but you’re not Mark Ruffalo”) kept me reading. It’s basically a list of reasons not to date a person — either by refusing to date them at all, or break up with them at later […]
“Of course it’s Loki, it’s always Loki”
Norse Mythology: Oh those crazy Norwegian gods. So similar to Greek/Roman gods but with a lot more cheeky humor. This is a fun book, even if there is nothing about it that resembles any other Neil Gaiman novel. Rather it is a straight retelling of selected myths. I have been binge-watching “The Almighty Johnsons” on Netflix and this is a great companion book. The Almighty Johnsons inhabit a world where the Norse gods are reincarnated with lesser powers in human form. Hijinks ensue. I recommend […]
“Sometimes you just have to put on lip gloss and pretend to be psyched.”
I believe I reviewed this for CBR5, but it’s been a while, and I didn’t listen to the audiobook last time, so here we are again. “I’m only marginally qualified to be giving advice at all. My body mass index is certainly not ideal, I frequently use my debit card to buy things that cost less than three dollars because I never have cash on me, and my bedroom is so untidy it looks like vandals ransacked the Anthropologie Sale section. I’m kind of a […]
“Well, unless I’m sitting atop you, what I weigh is really none of your business.”
This is another book Overdrive recommended for Women’s History Month, and yet another body-positive memoir I’ve read recently. I’d never heard of Brittany Gibbons prior to reading this, but I enjoyed it. It’s not really a book about being a “fat girl”, like the cover implies, but it’s definitely about dealing with a crappy childhood and learning to embrace yourself. She also REALLY hated college, and talks about that a lot here. “First things first, I’m going to tell you why I’m fat, because I […]
