Personally, I wasn’t impressed

April 21, 2017 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

So I didn’t really like Booky Wook. I didn’t like it because Russell Brand’s stories mostly revolve around being drunk and/or high and they got dull after a while. But when I purchase a copy of the first booked, I purchased a copy of its sequel as well. I am nothing if not obsessive about completing things. So I read Booky Wook Two….and didn’t really like it. I did however discover that a lack of drug and alcohol fueled stories does not improve Brand’s writing. […]

This Might Look Familiar…

I’m sure it’s not a first for the site, but it’s the first for me – I’m reviewing this book on the strength of another cannonballer’s review. I liked That Mitchell and Webb Look as well as Peep Show, and the memoir seemed pleasant enough by the first reviewer’s estimation, so why not? The central conceit – the comedian goes through his life story on a walk through his neighborhood necessitated by a bad back – pretty much sums up the book’s tone. Laconic, familiar, […]

“When we look up at a billboard in Times Square featuring a man with a large Adam’s apple, we are essentially being shown a demonstration of testicular aptitude.”

Thank you Lollygagger for recommending this book, because I absolutely loved it. It reminded me a lot of Mary Roach, as well as Unmentionable and the one about the plagues. Basically, I’m loving this genre of informative and entertaining nonfiction. I mean, I love a good Eric Larson book. But lately these more humorous takes on history and medicine have really become a lot of fun for me to read. So the author of If Our Bodies Could Talk: A Guide to Operating and Maintaining a […]

Either a one-star book or a five-star book; choose your own adventure

So, emmalita posts this book up on Facebook, correctly noting that there is not one aspect of it that isn’t ludicrous (“The title! The description! The cover!”) So, naturally, someone was going to have to read it, and since I had the opportunity to do so and not pay for it, it was time to step up for the good of the order. And… honestly? It wasn’t that bad. I mean — don’t get me wrong — it’s terrible. But it’s HILARIBLE. The last bad […]

A poor man’s idea of a rich man, a stupid man’s idea of a smart man, a weak man’s idea of a strong man.

I don’t understand Donald Trump, he is anathema to everything I believe in, from the inherent worth of hard work, to the importance of intellectual pursuit and excellence, hell, even the idea that class is best represented by less not more. But more than simply not understanding him, I didn’t see him coming, I never imagined he would be the republican nominee, let alone the president, I was completely blindsided by this. Now, when I encounter something I don’t understand I always try to learn […]

She had me at Anne Bronte saying “dickbags.”

This past week was our Spring Break, and we didn’t go anywhere. So, I spent some time attempting to finish all of the books sitting around the house that I had gotten halfway through. It turns out that there were more than I thought. I got through six, but that wasn’t all of them. As you might imagine, my thoughts are a bit discombobulated…trying to remember which book had annoying New York helicopter parents, and which had an alien race of teenage girls…but this one was easy to […]
