Okay so, the version of this I added to my audiobook queue actually turned out to be the audio drama version, which I was not expecting. Thus there’s a chance it’s a bit different than the printed version due to the fact it was all told in dialogue. However, I will definitely say if you can get your hands on the audio drama, grab it. The voice acting was great and had some decent talent behind it (including Haley Joel Osment and Stephen King). […]
Simply put, Evelyn Abbey is my former almost-girlfriend-turned-archnemesis-turned-tentative ally whom I would now very much like to permanently seduce
4.5 stars Carter Aaron and Evelyn “Evie” Abbey (nicknamed Evil by Carter shortly after their first meeting due to her nefarious and wicked laugh) meet at an early Halloween party. They seem to be the only single people in a sea of couples, and both drift towards a corner of the room away from the “marrieds”, discovering that they coincidentally both came in Harry Potter costumes. Hitting it off instantly, their enthusiasm towards one another wanes a bit when they find out they are both […]
Conflicted. Still, till death.
I love the rat queens. The first book was amazing, fresh and funny. The second book was fast paced and hilarious. Before I read the third volume I went back and re-read the second one. That when I realized it was like a whole new book. I couldn’t remember anything about it at all. Apparently this series quality is deteriorating. And fast. It’s been a week since I read the third one. And I can’t really tell you what it’s about. There is a bunch […]
It wore out its “welcome” almost immediately.
Ugh. There truly are not 250 words to say about this book. It came out in 2010, when these blog/website collections of things like passive aggressive notes or angry looking zoo animals or whatever were everywhere, and they kept getting book deals. I went through a period when I thought they were hilarious. I added a few to my Goodreads to-read list. I have a system for randomizing my next book, and when I come across one of these old “should’ve just been a website” […]
Ask a Manager: The Book
I found this book via recommendation in the comments of the “Ask a manager” advice blog run by Alison Green, and as soon as I got a few pages in it was pretty obvious why. This book is essentially that website in novel form. The plot is essentially Ender’s Game by way of Office Space; a corporate drone realizes that all the bureaucratic frustrations in his job have been artificially and intentionally inflicted on him, but the tone is solidly comedic. It’s an amusing if […]
Holy shitsnacks. So good.
Best for: Anyone who enjoys a great collection of essays. In a nutshell: Samantha Irby shares stories from her life that are at times so funny you’ll stop someone on the street to read a passage just so they can share in your joy. Line that sticks with me: “No one ever tells attractive children how much they suck, and then the rest of us get stuck with insufferable, narcissistic adults who can barely tie their shoes because someone else is busy either doing it […]
