Squirrel Girl, Squirrel Girl, powers of squirrel and also girl! DOUBLE CANNONBALL (finally)!

November 26, 2017 by Malin 7 Comments

Meet Doreen Green, aka Squirrel Girl. She’s been living in the attic of the Avengers headquarters, but now she’s ready to go to move out and go to college. Accompanied by her trusty squirrel sidekick, Tippy-toe, aka Tippy, she’s ready for the challenges of higher education and keeping her super-identity secret. Her new roommate Nancy Whitehead seems mostly interested in knitting and her kitten Mew. Even before she’s had time to get properly settled, Doreen has to save the campus from Kraven the Hunter, and […]

Fave play is fave

November 25, 2017 by tillie Leave a Comment

“None but libertines delight in him.” Claudio and Hero love each other and want to get married. Beatrice and Benedick….well that’s what the play is about. Look this play makes no fucking sense what-so-ever. I mean, why is Hero wooed by someone else, in a mask? Why the fuck does Dogberry stumble around? And Claudio is dickweasel numero uno for believing Don John whatshisface…who meddles to actually give the play a plot. But then again, this is much ado about nothing so it does make […]

Content warnings are a thing for a reason.

This is the kind of book that needs to land in your lap at just the right time. It is a quirky book filled with lots of different and varied life advice. It has everything from showing gratitude and chasing your dreams to managing anxiety and remembering to brush your teeth. And one chapter about getting a dog…? So yeah, his is the kind of book that needs to land in your lap at just the right time. Sadly this was not the time for […]

Airport fiction, a great read, and a new favorite.

November 17, 2017 by ingres77 2 Comments

69. Die Trying by Lee Child (3 stars) I’m not entirely sure why I keep returning to these kinds of books. I don’t know what “kind” of book it is, other than “airport fiction”. You know the kind; the mass market vaguely defined fiction that goes down easy without leaving much of an aftertaste. Easily digested and forgettable, these books cover the literary landscape without leaving any kind of quantifiable mark. They exist to sell books, and they sell books because they exist. I don’t […]

Erin Chack; Senior Editor, Acid Bath Princess of the Darkness

November 15, 2017 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

I didn’t know who Erin Chack was prior to seeing This is Really Happening on Goodreads Best Books of 2017 but after I looked at what she’s written on Buzzfeed I realized I’d read at least half of her most recent posts. Books written by people who are, for the most part, regular people can be hit or miss but the essays in This is Really Happening are more hit than miss. So that’s my only dating advice. Find a carrot who understands your anxieties well enough to […]

Goodreads confirms that it is NOT just me.

November 12, 2017 by Blingle Bells Leave a Comment

Ugh. This book was so disappointing. First of all, I freaking love Bunmi Latidan, so I had high hopes despite the fact that I almost always disappointed by “Confessions of a…” books. They’re never what I want them to be. They’re always unsatisfying. Having read a non-fiction humor book by Latidan (and having loved it) and being aware of her hilarious online presence, I was expecting way more. What I got was a half-baked novel about a new mom who isn’t coping with her life and has […]
