Bathroom Boogie

March 30, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

This book is due in June. One joy of working in a bookstore is sometimes you get to see items before they grace the streets. The second joy was me talking to people, “I can’t wait for this book…… let me pre-order it for you!” (I was once introduced to the principal of a school as the gal that spent their money!) When I think of the bathroom I do not thing of doing a boogie. However, Clare Foges and Al Murphy do. Or at least […]

Marlon Bundo (Non-Pence version)

March 29, 2018 by BlackRaven 3 Comments

While I cannot compare them directly (I have not read Charlotte and Karen Pence’s book) but by description, reviews and having read Oliver’s book I am confident in saying that John Oliver and team have captured the imitation is the best form of flattery market with their version of the Vice President Pence (or his wife and daughter) book Marlon Bundo’s Day in the Life of the Vice President. While you might not agree with Pence or Oliver views, this is a book that is […]

My break up letter to Janet Evanovich

March 19, 2018 by KB 1 Comment

Ah Janet. Where to begin. Or should I start saying, “when should I stop?” I am an avid fan of the Stephanie Plum series. And as I mentioned in a previous review, despite being up to book 24 in the Stephanie Plum series, and despite every book following the same formula, each book is a quick easy read guaranteed to have me chuckling. Every now and again I venture out and try one of Janet’s other book endeavours. So I read Curious Minds. I […]

Dirk Gently Is at It Again . . . Sort of

March 18, 2018 by Tracy Leave a Comment

This one started off much less confusingly (and weirdly) than the first book, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, though it didn’t necessarily end less confusingly. Part of the problem is that the ending seemed rushed, as though Adams were trying to get it done in a hurry, and he sacrificed quality and clarity to do so. Once again, the book doesn’t really seem to be about Dirk Gently, although he is a main character, and this time he doesn’t seem to do as much in terms of affecting […]

“You kill them with your success. Then they’ll have to kiss your motherfucking feet.”

March 18, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

After a string of lack luster reads I treated myself to Tiffany Haddish’s The Last Black Unicorn from Audible since it’s been getting great reviews and who doesn’t love Tiffany Haddish? I discovered Tiffany Haddish when Pajiba (or maybe it was Celebitchy) posted her interview with Jimmy Kimmel about taking the Fresh Prince of Bel Air on a Louisiana swamp tour. I didn’t see Girl’s Trip in theaters, my husband and I usually only see “blow-em up” movies on the big screen, but I recently saw it and […]

A peak into a possible life

March 1, 2018 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

Raina Telgemeier took her childhood struggles with her sister and adapted them into this funny, and at times touching, graphic novel about the joys and angst of sisterhood.  I have two sisters, however with a twelve year age difference between my first sister and myself, and a fourteen year age difference (plus the complexities of autism) between me and my second sister, with the added complication that I moved away from home when they were seven and five respectively, I’ve never had what I consider […]
