Jasper Fforde’s silly brand of satire returns, a little bit darker this time around.

September 28, 2018 by narfna 2 Comments

Jasper Fforde hasn’t released a new book since 2014, and that is a long time for him. I have been waiting and waiting (so patiently) for the third Nursery Crime book, but it just doesn’t seem to be happening. Neither does the second Shades of Grey book. But now there is this book, which is not actually out in the US until 2019, so I bought it from Book Depository. I’m glad I did this anyway because the UK cover is so much better than the […]

You’ve Finally Become a Woman Who Runs With the Wolves

September 22, 2018 by Emmalita 8 Comments

Today I turn 50, and biology willing, my ovaries will run out of eggs soon. I keep thinking it’s about to happen, but after taking a break for several weeks, my ovaries find more goddamn eggs. I have probably overestimated how close I am to menopause, but damn I am tired of this whole process.

Less is More

September 21, 2018 by Tragic Sandwich 1 Comment

This book won the Pulitzer Prize. I didn’t know that until I sat down to write this review, so I have no idea how it wound up on my radar. I’m very glad it did. Arthur Less is a novelist. He has an enemy and a nemesis, which is a lot of antagonists for someone who isn’t particularly antagonistic; an identity-defining blue suit; friends; and ex-boyfriends, the most recent of whom is marrying another man. And he is about to turn 50. Arthur can’t bring […]

In the immortal words of Doug Judy, “So why don’t you just chill and eat some sexy-ass lobster?”**

Craig Robinson, truly a “man for all seasons,” continues to prove that he’s a national treasure with his debut children’s book, Jake the Fake. Did you love Craig on The Office?   Or in his recurring role as Doug Judy, the Pontiac Bandit, on Brooklyn 99? How about his annoying, and yet charming, commercials for Dodge? [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsmyyHhGjHw&w=560&h=315] Did you ever hear him sing Radiohead’s Creep (with an all-Office backup band. Creed!)? [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogwvMJDlBtA&w=560&h=315] And he was even great on Ghosted, which was really quite […]

I wanted to laugh more!

September 21, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

cbr10bingo… Alabama Pink I listened to this book, which I think is the optimal way to read it.  It wasn’t narrated by Chelsea, but the narrator was good.  I read this for cbr10bingo, and it was my Alabama Pink choice.  I remember when CBR first started, and I thought “there’s no way I can read that many books”, and now I’m on my fourth CBR and kicking ass.  I love it.  Bingo is a new and exciting twist this year that’s just making me want […]

An Elderly Lady might be up to no good but she is one Hell of an old broad!

September 17, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

This is Two Heads Are Better Than One review. The below review is from our website from one of the staff members who liked it. I have to admit, this could have easily been my cover book. However, even with the really cool and nifty cover and awesome title I probably still if had not be for Sarah K. tell me that she, Sarah D. and Tambra loved this book. This review is from Tabmra. “I hope that I am as feisty, but perhaps not […]
