Read the Book, too!

May 16, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Learning to read takes on a new twist with Read the Book, Lemmings by Ame Dyckman and Zachariah Ohora. When the lemmings are told to, “Read the book!” to learn how to be lemmings, it does not go as S.S. Cliff, First Mate Foxy planned. In fact, it goes very, very wrong! But when he learns his lemmings are not being stubborn but that they just do not know how to read, Foxy must teach Jumper, Me Too, and Ditto Lemming to read. Which also […]

May 16, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The author behind the Elephant and Piggie books and the Pigeon of driving a bus fame books, (Mo Willems) has created a beginning reader series, Elephant & Piggie Like Reading! Each one is illustrated by a different popular children’s illustrator. Each book is a book that Elephant and Piggie are reading and not them as the main characters. One of those books is The Itchy Book! With the text by Willems (in his signature style) and the illustrations by Leuyen Pham this new series keeps […]

First Star

May 15, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

First Star: A Bear and Mole Story is the fifth adventure of Bear and Mole. The relationship between these two friends is like Frog and Toad or Morris and Boris: a little awkward at times, little frustrating at times, but they always care about each other. Sometimes a parent and child relationship takes form as well. With Bear the parent/teacher and Mole the child/learning. This time Bear and Mole have decided that they will hike up to Camp Tiptop and stay the night. They pick […]

Moon and You

May 15, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Hello to You, Moon, Sally Morgan, Sonny Day and Biddy Maroney have made a book for you. As Sara O’Leary and Ashley Crowley have made a book for The Boy and the Blue Moon. And as Alison Oliver made a book for a girl called Moon. And my theme is books about the moon (if you have not guessed). Hello to You Moon by Morgan is a simple book about animals saying hello or goodnight (as the case might be) to the moon. The delightful […]

Monsters Count and Say Their ABCs

May 15, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

It is not often that I say, “This is the best book ever.” And with Monster ABC by Kyle Sullivan and Derek Sullivan this is one of the best Halloween alphabet board books I have read in a while. And Hush Now, Banshee!: A Not-So-Quiet Counting Book also by the Sullivan’s is a close second. They are alphabet and counting books, however, with a more adult tone. The child will enjoy that H is for the Hobgoblin that smells like a fart (and of course, […]

Pixar animator Aaron Harline has created a book that is about an unlikely friendship between a square and circle. Neither of them can find common ground, until they realize if they combine what they like best, then best friends they can be! Even with a few bumps and owws along the way. Harline has worked on the Pixar films, Up, Toy Story 3 and Inside Out. But this did not happen overnight. His afterwards that explains his journey getting to do the thing he wanted […]
