The millionth review of this book (which is wonderful).

December 30, 2014 by narfna 2 Comments

I think it’s probably impossible to read Amy Poehler’s book without comparing it, subconsciously at the very least, with Tina Fey’s Bossypants (and possibly Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?). Bossypants was certainly on my mind, not just because when I think of Amy Poehler, Tina Fey isn’t far behind (and vice versa), but also because both women (and Mindy Kaling) are associated in my mind with being funny on Thursday night NBC sitcoms. They’ve also all three got that ethos about them. The […]

Unbroken

December 29, 2014 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

“If I knew I had to go through those experiences again,” [Louie] finally said, “I’d kill myself.” Unless you dont have a TV or Internet access, you’ve heard of Angelina Jolie’s third directorial project ‘Unbroken.’ I had heard of Lauren Hillenbrand’s biography when it may some rounds on Best Seller lists but hadn’t looked into it until La Jolie brought it to my attention. For all my historical readings (both in school and for fun) I’ve never learned much about our fight in the Pacific. […]

dear mrs kennedy

December 19, 2014 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

So I completed my very first Cannonball with a book I very much enjoyed but couldn’t let myself stop there and decided to squeeze in one more book and review before the year’s end… and what a mistake that was. I borrowed Dear Mrs Kennedy from a friend who enjoyed it. Knowing my tastes for Kennedys and history, she brought it with her when she came to visit over Thanksgiving weekend. I opened it that night and I finally finished all 222 pages of it […]

And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!

I picked up The Unforgiving Minute as it was on the 2014 U.S. Army Chief of Staff’s Professional Reading List. As I’ve mentioned before, I love to read fiction for fun but I was commuting an hour to work each way so I decided to listen to audiobooks to pass the time. I thought it would benefit me professionally to read the books recommended by the leader of my branch of service. This book became available in April and I listened to it over the […]

Don’t Half-ass Two Things, Whole-Ass One Thing.

December 15, 2014 by ModernLove 3 Comments

Nick Offerman is one of those people I find practically perfect in every way. His sense of humor, his love of actually doing things, his relationship with his wife, his honesty…He’s just one of those people who seems like he’s a solid person and someone I would want to hang out with. This book didn’t lessen that feeling at all. I was lucky enough to see his American Ham tour last year, and the book follows pretty solidly along the same structure of the show […]

The new king of the dads has risen.

My daughter can’t even read and she loves this book.  She says it’s about mommies, which is amazingly on point, since I haven’t read any of it to her. I also feel I should point out that the color scheme is the same as my old Livejournal.
