Ugh, These Dudes. Blech.

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

January 19, 2024 by ASKReviews 1 Comment

Best for: Fans of her previous book; fans of Liane Moriarty’s work. In a nutshell: Jules and Will are getting married on an island off the coast of Ireland. Someone will be dead by the end of the weekend. Worth quoting: N/A Why I chose it: I just finished one of the author’s other books and am always looking for good audio books to listen to while running. Review: I love a twist that I didn’t quite guess but also makes sense. This is another […]

Hey, Ho, Let’s Go (or I don’t want to be buried in a Pet Sematary)

Pet Sematary by Stephen King

January 17, 2024 by dreadpiratekel 2 Comments

Pet Sematary by Stephen King First things first – I am a Stephen King fan. I’m a big King fan and have been since I was a teenager, which was a while ago. A long while ago. I just want all my biases laid out here at the start: I am a fan, and I am predisposed to like his writing style and his works in general. Despite being a pretty big fan, I have not read everything he has written, and this book was […]

Strange men in corridors distributing stab wounds was no basis for a system of government.

A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum by Emma Southon

January 16, 2024 by Emmalita 4 Comments

Detailed descriptions of murder and executions are very much NOT my thing, so it is a testament to Emma Southon’s writing that I read (listened to) all of A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum: Murder in Ancient Rome. I had to stop and take a few days break several times, because while fascinating, it was also horrifying. It was also illuminating and informative. I highly recommend this, especially if you are weary of Roman histories that ponder the hotness of Cleopatra. […]

The Love Hypothesis Hypothesis

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

The Love Hypothesis Ali Hazelwood ♥ Hypothesis Although not that experienced with reading romance novels, I might like one if it started out as Star Wars fan fiction.

The Woman in Me by Britney Spears

January 8, 2024 by Sophia Leave a Comment

Britney Spears is only two years younger than me, so we grew up in the same era. I never followed her too closely, but I remember her famous music videos, dancing with the snake in the VMA’s, and her dating Justin Timberlake. I also remember the paparazzi hounding her when she had her baby, when she shaved her head, and when she was taken out of her home on a gurney. The public, on the whole, seemed to delight in the “downfall” of Britney Spears. […]

Kept Me Guessing

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

January 7, 2024 by ASKReviews 2 Comments

Best for: Fans of the Liane Moriarty style of storytelling, who aren’t worried about slightly darker tales. In a nutshell: A bunch of friends of university – along with their partners – spend New Year’s Eve at an isolated lodge in northern Scotland. A storm hits. Someone is dead. Worth quoting: N/A Why I chose it: I was looking for something to listen to while running. Instead I ended up listening to it while doing pretty much anything because I couldn’t put it down. Review: […]
