Kill me or save me, but do something.

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

July 22, 2022 by Emmalita 2 Comments

I love Tasha Suri’s books. They are rich with rage and want and hope. The Jasmine Throne is all of that. It is so far up the alley of so many Cannonballers that I am shocked that I am the first to review it here. The Jasmine Throne focuses on three women, the subjugated nation of Ahiranya, and the Empire of Parijatdvipa. Priya is a maid in the Regent of Ahiranya’s palace in the city of Hiranaprastha. Malini is the sister of the newly crowned Emperor […]

a sweet little sapphic romance

Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake

July 21, 2022 by tiny_bookbot Leave a Comment

CBR Bingo: Heart (’cause, romance, obvs) I added this to my library holds list because I kept seeing it recommended seemingly everywhere I turned, so okay! fine! also because with all the serious reading I’ve been doing, I do need some books that lighten up the mood a bit. (Also, this came in when I had 7 hours of driving on deck, so I needed a good car listen.) The summary is pretty straightforward: Delilah Green, struggling art photographer and love-’em-and-leave-’em lesbian, caves to the […]

You know what this franchise needs? A spin-off!

Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

July 21, 2022 by RaRaGabor Leave a Comment

Every once in a very great while, I enjoy a romance novel of the Harlequin variety. My mom used to read them when I was a kid (and she had at least one very awkward convo with my precocious-reader-self about how those books were not appropriate for me to read (even if left lying around) (and spoiler alert: her reasons only made me more curious)), and my college roommate would occasionally spend a Sunday procrastinating from all her schoolwork by tearing through some truly ridiculous […]

Definitely Not For Me

My Life At The Edge of Stardom by Mary Lynn Rajskub

July 20, 2022 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: Not people who like the author, as I think this might lead them to not… In a nutshell: Actor and comedian Rajskub shares stories of her life before and during her time as a fairly well-known actor. Worth quoting: N/A (Audio book) Why I chose it: Celebrity memoir read by the author. One of my favorite genres. Review: Do you ever read a book that you think you’ll enjoy and just … not connect with it at all? That was my experience with […]

“It be filled with my Love always.”

All that She Carried: The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, a Black Family Keepsake by Tiya Miles

July 20, 2022 by RaRaGabor Leave a Comment

This book was fascinating, and very different from what I expected. In the 1850s South Carolina, a young enslaved girl, Ashley, was sold away from her mother. Ashley’s mother, Rose, packed a sack for Ashley to take, containing “a tattered dress 3 handfulls of pecans a braid of Roses hair. Told her It be filled with my Love always”. Two generations later, Ruth Middleton, Ashley’s granddaughter, embroidered text onto the sack explaining its contents and significance. Miles uses each of the items in the sack, […]

It’s been two months, and I’m still thinking about this one.

Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak

July 17, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC. It has not affected the content of my review. I requested this on a whim last week after I happened to see it on NetGalley, and only the day before a YouTuber I just started watching had gotten a physical ARC. It sounded interesting, and I’ve been (weirdly and uncharacteristically) gravitating towards creepy and horror-type books in the last six months. This hit the spot for me. I was a bit nervous because the early reviews […]
