Still gobbling up books, but not so great at writing reviews. Mostly doing design projects for Cannonball and leaving bare bones reviews on Goodreads. https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/17113957-jen (Learn more about this Cannonballer: yesknopemaybe's Quick Questions interview.)

Great title, pretty good book

May 18, 2016 by yesknopemaybe 2 Comments

I only occasionally dabble in romance so this is my first Sarah MacLean. It was a pretty great choice for a first book and I’d definitely recommend it if you like historical romance. The premise is A++ for sure. Lady Philippa Marbury is the second to youngest daughter of an esteemed family. To put it bluntly, she’s kind of a weirdo (at least for the time period). Basically, think of the main character from Bones set in regency England and you have Pippa. She’s all […]

This series is living up to its promise

3.5 stars. I try not to pay much attention to reviews of books I know I’m definitely going to read soon because I don’t want my opinion to be tainted by anyone else’s, but for some reason I had it in my head that this third book in The Raven Cycle series wasn’t as well received as the first two books. Luckily, that was not the case for me and I loved Blue Lily, Lily Blue just as much as The Raven Boys and The […]

This book will chew you up and spit you out

What the fuck did I just read? I think I liked it? It definitely kept me guessing, that’s for sure. This book isn’t for the faint hearted. There’s lots of gore, violence, and even a little horror. I wouldn’t say it was a scary book per se, but a lot of crazy shit happens in The Library at Mount Char. The narrative flits back and forth between the main character, Carolyn, as an adult and as a child. As a child her parents were killed […]

Charming is the keyword here

This book is pretty adorable. If you liked The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, 84 Charing Cross Road, or The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, you’ll love The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend. It’s a book about books. I might even say it’s a book about books about books. Sara, a Swedish bookseller, becomes friends and pen pals with an elderly woman, Amy, living in Iowa. They eventually decide to meet and Sara gets her tourist visa and hops on over to the United […]

Luckily I gave in to peer pressure

May 11, 2016 by yesknopemaybe 3 Comments

3.5 stars. After seeing all the positive reviews on CBR for this little romance book, I had to check it out to see what all the fuss was about. Turns out you all have great taste (this wasn’t a surprise). I hadn’t read much contemporary romance until this past year, but this is a good addition to my ever-growing shelf of fun, modern romance. Act Like It centers around Lainie Graham and Richard Troy. Lainie is a stage actress on the rise performing in the […]

An American in Paris

May 11, 2016 by yesknopemaybe Leave a Comment

I have no idea where I heard about this book and I didn’t really know what it was about when I went into it, so I was surprised that I ended up loving it as much as I did. It was a quiet kind of book, the kind that just tugs you along until you’re in so deep that you don’t know what hit you. Grace lives in Paris working as an under-the-table employee at a somewhat shady restoration shop. She’s an American and she’s […]
