What if, what if, what if

When I found out a new Kristin Cashore book was coming out I was REALLY excited. When I found out it wasn’t a new book in the Graceling series, I was a little less excited, but cautiously optimistic. It wasn’t something I’d pre-order, but it was something I’d get on the library hold list for. I was super curious what direction this book would take and if I’d like it as much as the Graceling books. Luckily, I can say that I really enjoyed Jane, […]

Schwab sticks the landing (mostly)

January 26, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 1 Comment

3.5 stars. It’s always a bit scary heading into the final book of a beloved series. Will things wrap up satisfactorily? Will my favorite characters die? Will I be able to read it again and still love it? Ideally you want it to be the best book in the series, but just not ruining the series will usually suffice. That was kind of my feeling with this one. Although I didn’t love it as much as the first two books, it was still a satisfying […]

Pirates, Magic, & Knife Wielding Bisexuals

4.5 stars. In general, I’m not someone who rereads books. There are just SO many good books out there waiting to be read that I have a hard time going back. Even if it was a book I liked, there’s always the fear that I might not like it as much the second time. I want to keep my memory of that book pristine. The problem is, instead of remembering plots and characters, I tend to remember how I felt about a book and that […]

I completely adored Aslan’s last book, Zealot, which examined the historical evidence we have for what Jesus of Nazareth, the historical Jesus, would have been like when you strip away all the modern beliefs and assumptions. It was incredibly fascinating and Aslan took us through the evidence piece by piece, drawing conclusions or best guesses along the way. Although I enjoyed God, it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting. I was expecting the same measured look at historical evidence and then conclusions drawn from that […]

Cute town, cute people, cute book

January 21, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 1 Comment

3.5 stars. If you’re looking for something sweet and light without being overly cheesy, this may be the book for you. I was suffering from a bit of a book hangover after tearing through the Lady Sherlock series and just wanted something easy and fun that would be quick to get through. Veronica Henry delivered! Her story of a little English town and its bookshop was exactly the thing I needed. The story centers on Emilia who comes home to her ailing father to be […]

The Obsession Continues

You know a book is good when you immediately purchase the next one in the series. I had NO chill after reading A Study in Scarlet Women and found myself on Audible clicking the buy button just a few minutes later. Sherry Thomas is a genius y’all. Also, she seems to be pretty prolific which, let’s just say it’s a good thing because if I have to wait more than a year to read the next book, I might actually die of anticipation. A Conspiracy […]
