Still gobbling up books, but not so great at writing reviews. Mostly doing design projects for Cannonball and leaving bare bones reviews on Goodreads. https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/17113957-jen (Learn more about this Cannonballer: yesknopemaybe's Quick Questions interview.)

Thar be dragons

[Sidenote: This book is only $1.99 right now!] I always love it when a fun book falls on a cannonball milestone. Although, I have been having a pretty good reading year in terms of quality, so maybe not too surprising. I heard of this book when it first came out in 2017 and I was fairly sure I was going to love it, so I was saving it as a comfort read during a bad week. I should really do that more often because it […]

Who run the world?

I’ve been putting off this review for a couple of weeks because I’m still torn about this book. I think the issue is that I respect it and what it’s trying to do, but I didn’t enjoy reading it. Generally I DNF quickly like nobody’s fucking business. And yet, I stuck this one out, wanting to see how it would finish up. I think I’m glad I stuck it out? The ending was more enjoyable than most of the rest of the book I guess. […]

A new series to love while Tana French is writing her next book

3.5 stars. So glad to be able to say that I enjoyed this one almost as much as the first. It’s always a scary thing to read an author’s second book when the first was so beloved. Luckily, Harper knows what she’s doing and makes quality mystery writing look easy. We’re back with Federal Police Agent Aaron Falk for this book. He’s gone back to the city in his regular job with the feds, sniffing out money laundering, etc. When one of his informants goes […]

Burn it all down

February 19, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 4 Comments

Obviously books about rape aren’t the easiest reads in the world, but this one actually felt easier than most. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot to get angry and be horrified about in here. It’s just that the authors presented their material in a way that wasn’t gratuitous or overwhelmingly gruesome. I felt like they walked the line between letting the reader know the full picture of what happened without going overboard on crime details. A few years ago, ProPublica and The Marshall Project […]

Not quite what I thought it would be

February 19, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 1 Comment

I really want to be that person who can just pick up a bunch of books that look good and end up loving them. Does that really happen to people? I usually end up having the best experiences reading books that have been recommended to me via various sources (including CBR of course!). I’m torn between wanting to read hidden gems that haven’t gotten a big publicity push and wanting to read great book after great book. Usually my desire for the latter wins out, […]

Featuring an elevator of love

February 19, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 2 Comments

3.5 stars. I don’t end up reading a lot of romance because although I love the genre, a large percentage of my reading is audio nowadays and I just can’t bring myself to listen to sex scenes in public, even if no one knows that’s what I’m doing. Whenever I get a chance to read one though, I always have so much fun and wonder why I don’t make time more often. The Wedding Date did not disappoint! Alexa and Drew have an adorable meet […]
