A 10th Doctor Adventure

December 29, 2014 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

This is yet another of the 50th Anniversary books, one for each Doctor. This one has the 10th, plus Donna Noble and her family. The writer, Gary Russel, worked on Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane Adventures, so he’s familiar with the concepts, and does this sub-genre proud. Donna is home, getting ragged on by her mom, and catching up with her grandpa Wilf. He’s having a great time, because he has discovered a new star, and he got to name it. Wilf invites the […]

A 9th Doctor Adventure

December 29, 2014 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

This is yet another 50th Anniversary special book. It was written by Gareth Roberts & published in 2005. Roberts has written a few of my favorite episodes of the modern Doctor Who, including “The Shakespeare Code” and “The Unicorn and the Wasp.” (He also wrote “The Lodger,” which brought us Matt Smith’s gams). According to his bio, he also wrote for The Sarah Jane Adventures, a show I hope one day to see without having to pay for it. We know Roberts loves us, because […]

Another 11th Doctor Adventure

December 29, 2014 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

This is another of the 50th Anniversary books re-released in 2013 (I’m a year behind, I know). It’s Christmas time, and the Doctor, Amy, and Rory are supposed to be heading home (to Leadworth, that is) for Christmas. But of course they are sidetracked to where they’re needed (thanks, Idris/Tardis!). They end up somewhere Earth-ish, and it’s definitely winter. When they’re exploring, Rory turns back to get a warmer coat. (Why does he do that? He should know better than to get separated from the […]

Another Doctor Who book

December 29, 2014 by Walking Widdershins 1 Comment

Yes, that Mark Gatiss. Quite the Renaissance man, isn’t he? Actor, writer, funny person, man about town. . . . This book was originally published back in 2000, but was re-released for the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who. It stars the Third Doctor, otherwise known as the Action Doctor, or the Judo Chop Doctor. Feats of derring-do and whatnot. We open during WW2 in England. Alec Whistler, a RAF pilot, discovers a crystal in the wreckage of the RAF base (it was destroyed while he […]

River Song’s first book

December 28, 2014 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

My favorite companion wrote a book! Ok, so she used a pseudonym, but we all know it’s River Song. She’s a hard boiled detective for a hard boiled time, with all the sass and brass and everything you expect from her. Melody has been hired by movie star Rock Railton, who believes that he is to be killed. Rock mentions the “kiss of the Angel,” so Melody is definitely in.  She meets studio owner Max Kliener at a press party, and he says he can make her a […]

An 11th Doctor Compendium

December 28, 2014 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

Multiple authors take on the Siege of Trenzalore. The doctor protected Trenzalore for 900 years from all of his enemies – and from some of his friends. He knew he would die on Trenzalore, he just didn’t know when or how. This book contains four of the stories that happened during those 900 years: “Let it Snow;” “An Apple a Day;” “Strangers in the Outland;” and “The Dreaming.” They tell the tales of attacks by Autons, the Krynoids, the Mara, and the Ice Warriors. The […]
