I’m impatient…

Chainsaw Man, Vol. 12 by Tatsuki Fujimoto

October 25, 2022 by Travis_J_Smith Leave a Comment

I saw on Viz that new chapters had been releasing and looked into when a new volume was due out. Turns out Volume 12 was already released. Where? Hell if I know. I couldn’t find it. But thankfully Viz, for only $1.99/mo., lets you read seemingly all that you want in their manga library, and that includes those Chainsaw Man chapters. So, since I refuse to wait for the physical copy to read it, I read it on my phone. Not the best way to read […]

We get it, you one-punch things…

One-Punch Man, Vol. 3 by One

October 25, 2022 by Travis_J_Smith Leave a Comment

Yup, I think I’m abandoning this series. I had been hoping there would come a point when things would click and it’d become something more. Alas, it seems like it’s destined to continue being a hodgepodge of silliness that’s quite the mixed bag. In volume one, it was a fun time. In volume three, it introduces a whole host of new characters and plotlines that I didn’t care a smidgen about. Hero rankings, a meteor that’s going to be stopped by… I’m sure anybody reading these can […]

I Am

You Are Home by Catana Chetwynd

October 25, 2022 by Travis_J_Smith Leave a Comment

One of the few things I miss, having cut ties with Facebook and the things they own, such as Instagram, is Catana Comics. So, when I saw this on the shelf at Target, I straight up threw it in my cart. For me, the Holy Trinity of long-running comics is probably Peanuts, Sarah Scribbles, and Catana. In other words, just as this book is titled You Are Home, when I read it, I do in fact feel at home. Nearly every single comic in this collection is […]

This isn’t it…

Fangirl, Vol. 1: The Manga by Sam Maggs

October 25, 2022 by Travis_J_Smith Leave a Comment

Look, I love Rainbow Rowell, I love Fangirl, and I love comics. How, then, could Fangirl, the manga, not be a homerun for me? I think my gripes begin and end with the art style. I could rant about how this isn’t manga, seeing as manga literally means a Japanese comic book, but plenty of people have said their peace about that already. It’s in a “manga style,” I guess, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, even if it remains quite sus. No, what bothers […]

What If?

What If? 2: Additional Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe

One Punch, Vol. 2 by One

The Best We Could Do by Thi Bui

The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt

Trick 'r Treat: Days of the Dead by Michael Dougherty

Well, I finally got my answer, vis-à-vis the autism assessment. I won’t get the definitive answer until Friday when I have the follow-up appointment, as the guy who did my assessment has to first confer with everybody else, but he assured me that he was for sure on it and doesn’t see anybody else swaying him. Finally, that weight is off my shoulders and I have a name to put to why I am the way that I am. Now comes the hard part: telling people. While […]

No Longer Human indeed

No Longer Human Vol. 1 by Junji Ito

October 2, 2022 by Travis_J_Smith Leave a Comment

I’d seen the original novel in the #BookTok section at Books-a-Million, so this manga caught my eye when I was scanning the manga shelves at FYE. I didn’t have the money for this massive manga, but I did manage to find at least one volume of it to read online, and it was an experience. This is easily the most depraved thing I’ve read this year, and I’m afraid to read any further. It’s the stuff of nightmares. Remember how I said I’d be here all […]
