ODY-C is based on Homer’s Odyssey in a world where Zeus has killed off most of the men. ODY-C is a genderbent interpretation that’s completely warped out of its own mind in a psychedelic sci-fi god-ruled outer space. I mean the whole thing is nuts. Crazy colors, and sexual innuendos all over the place; think women breaking down doors with giant phallos’ and vagina-like spaceships. But don’t let the colors fool you. This is not an explosion of a book, it’s a slow, heavy journey. […]
In which I hold back and refrain from geeking out about technology..
Oh boy oh boy! If I didn’t already have a crush on Aziz Ansari before reading this book, I definitely do now. Holy smokes that man is adorable! This book read kind of like a bunch of blog-entries strung together; like something from thegloss.com from way back when it was awesome (I don’t know what’s hip now as I am no longer young, #obvs.) Modern Romance is a sociological study of technologies impact on modern dating patterns and relationships. As we travel through America, Japan, […]
If you believe anything can be bigger than Harry Potter, this might be for you
This is another one of those times where I was duped into buying a book because of rave reviews. Brian K. Vaughn even appears in a blurb on the cover stating that this is the kind of story he wishes he’d thought of. After reading it I wholeheartedly agree. I wish Brian K. Vaughn had thought of it too. The Unwritten takes place in a world where stories are truth. In this world Tommy Taylor is the biggest story of them all. Tom Taylor, however, […]
Unlike death I’m late to the party
This is a sweet story set in Germany during World War II. Death starts the tale with his musings on life and color before launching into the tale of a young girls named Liesel. Death meets Liesel just threes times in her life, yet from those instances and a story written in a basement he creates a story and a world. For accurate summary see here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/387598058?book_show_action=true&from_review_page=1 The book, while revered by many, was just too obnoxious for me. A little too see through. And […]
Mange tak!
Seriously the CBR community is the best. Not only did I get this wonderful selection of books, but I also got a really thoughtful card, in my own language no less. AND a wonderful candle that claims to smell of old books – it must be true, because it smells absolutely delightful! I’m really looking forward to reading and reviewing these books. Still, I have exams coming up, so currently they’re brigtening up a desk buried in school papers. It’s hard to tell from my blurry picture […]
The Hundred Thousand Meh’s
This books is called a hundred thousand kingdoms despite the fact that it takes place solely in Yeines head. And not in the intimate epic kind of way. In the “I looked into X’s eyes and I could see why Z loved him” replace X, Z with random God/Godess. Yeine is the ruler of Darr, at 19 years old, when her mother dies, mysteriously. Suddenly Yeine is called upon by her grandfather to be one of the potential heirs to the throne of the Hundred […]
