Movie is coming out? Better read it quick!

February 17, 2014 by thewheelbarrow 5 Comments

I read (listened) this book because I wanted to watch the movie. I do not like watching movies before reading books on which they are based. I am active duty military but this is not the type of book I normally read. I like to leave work at work so reading military novels, both fiction and non-fiction, is something I avoid. I thoroughly expected to not really like Lone Survivor.  That said, I loved this book. Lone Survivor was written by Marcus Luttrell but I […]

Am I supposed to laugh because there is profanity in the title?

February 17, 2014 by thewheelbarrow Leave a Comment

I chose to listen to this book because, quite frankly, it sounds like fun. I was well aware that this was not the latest Tucker Max “book.” If you like Tucker Max, and I must admit that I did when I was 20, just stop now because this book is not for you. Assholes: A Theory is a philosophical study on asshole-ish behavior that attempts to walk the line between serious and tongue-in-cheek. Well, it may not try to walk that line but it certainly […]

The Broken Empire Trilogy Book #3

February 17, 2014 by thewheelbarrow 3 Comments

Superb ending to a fantastic trilogy. Mark Lawrence really outdid himself with Emperor of Thorns. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so this will be vague. Emperor of Thorns follows our (anti-) hero Jorg of Renar, NOT Ancrath as he caravans to Vienne. There he is to join other kings and representatives who will vote for a new emperor. The vote takes place every four years and it has been a very long time since the Broken Empire was whole. Jorg intends to […]

thewheelbarrow’s Review #1: Why Grizzly Bears Should Wear Underpants by Matthew Inman

February 17, 2014 by thewheelbarrow Leave a Comment

Why Grizzly Bears Should Wear Underpants is the fourth book and second anthology from TheOatmeal.com creator, Matthew Inman. It’s not really really an anthology but the description is still apt. I have always enjoyed The Oatmeal and this book was on sale at my local Barnes and Noble so I bought it. My wife and I made this our bathroom reader and my normally long visits instantly became even longer. It was a good thing that I read this on the toilet because I very […]
