The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen

Don’t cross a Doomsday (or his gentleman friend)

The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles

December 30, 2023 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles was recommended by several friends! I’m terrible at reading new releases because my TBR is like 4,000+ books long. After attending Lawless Book Club, this was moved to the top of the queue. The FOMO got me to finish reading it about a week later. I’m always down for a gay romance and hadn’t read a queer M/M one yet. Set in the Regency era, Joss Doomsday and Sir Gareth meet up at a pub for […]

Tempting Klaus by Ashlee Rose

An erotica holiday romance buddy read

Tempting Klaus by Ashlee Rose

December 27, 2023 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

I joined another buddy read with The Ripped Bodice book club for Tempting Klaus by Ashlee Rose. The holiday pun title piqued my interest. I’m also woefully behind on my half Cannonball, so it was time for more novellas. In this erotic holiday romance, we are introduced to Belle. She lies in wait to seduce her father-in-law, Klaus. From that first page, it was a record-scratch moment. Beg your pardon? Did I read that correctly?!  We learn she married Klaus’ son nearly a year ago and […]

Unhinged by Vera Valentine

Sentient object romances are a thing

Unhinged by Vera Valentine

December 27, 2023 by teresaelectro 4 Comments

Unhinged by Vera Valentine was recommended by the LA book club crew at The Ripped Bodice. A member heard about it on TikTok (see this hilarious video from Grapie). They suggested it as a just-for-kicks buddy read. It’s on Kindle Unlimited and only about 70 pages.  Back in August, I was boarding a flight and decided to give it a go. Apologies to my plane row for dealing with my reactions to my phone. The novella’s premise is bonkers. An apartment door falls in love […]

CBR15 Book Exchange haul – Thank you acbug

December 27, 2023 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Thank you acbug for this wonderful book exchange box of goodies! I love postcard prints and stickers, so it was a delight to find those inside We Ride Upon Sticks by Quan Barry. Witches are definitely up my alley. The Future by Naomi Alderman has an amazing abstract but captivating cover. I’ve not read her books, but really want to. And now I have one at the ready for 2024. Girl on a Float also looks right up my alley.

HEA book club reads

Heart and Hand (Gold Sky #1) by Rebel Carter

Knot My Type (All Access #1) by Evie Mitchell

December 31, 2022 by teresaelectro 2 Comments

Closing out the year with two romances I read for the Happily Everyone After book club at The Ripped Bodice. Heart and Hand is an unconventional historical romance with a mail-order bride marrying not one but two husbands. Julie Baptiste wants to escape New York Society. Her Black family is well-respected and who she marries is newspaper fodder. She much rather read a book than go to a party. She agrees to marry two men out in Gold Sky, Montana. It’s a long train ride, […]

Love in the time of magic and war

Song of Blood and Stone by L. Penelope

December 31, 2022 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Song of Blood and Stone is the first novel in the Earthsinger Chronicles by L. Penelope. We meet a bunch of magical kingdoms, but there are two major powers. Elsira and Lagrimar are divided by a magical barrier called The Mantle. We learn through flashbacks they used to be one. The founders received magical gifts and used them to enrich the land. Some people have magic and it gets passed down by generation. That’s until one generation causes a split and epically long war. A brother […]
