Fae trouble for Mercy Thompson

Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs

River Marked by Patricia Briggs

December 30, 2021 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

After reviewing Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series last year, I  have come back for more with CBR13. I can’t seem to get enough! Mercy is a coyote shifter who lives in Washington working as a mechanic. She was raised by werewolves and attempted to strike out on her own. She keeps to herself mostly until she ends up tangled in werewolf business. Her neighbor happens to be the local were pack Alpha, Adam. With the first four books in the series, Mercy gets into trouble […]

Young at Heart with Judy Blume

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

December 29, 2021 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

Reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume was a walk down memory. I read this for our Cannon Book Club Young at Heart meeting in April since it was the shortest! Alas, it took me a ridiculously long time to listen to the audiobook. I made the mistake of listening in bed when tired from work. I went right to sleep! Tales kicked off this popular book series about Peter and his little brother Fudge. Peter wants to hang out with his friends and have […]

Finally an HEA (sort of) for Rachel Morgan

The Undead Pool by Kim Harrison

December 29, 2021 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

I’ve hit my half-Cannonball with one of my favorite books of the year. I had hoped for a proper 52 books cannonball, but alas, life happened. I’ve been reviewing The Hollows series by Kim Harrison nearly every Cannonball Read challenge. I was SO close to catching up with the original ending of the series. That is until Harrison restarted it last year with American Demon. I love how has the whole Inderland community in her stories: witches, demons, vampires, werewolves, fairies, elves, pixies, you name it. […]

Don’t mess with Louise Lloyd

Dead Dead Girls (Harlem Renaissance Mystery #1) by Nekesa Afia

December 29, 2021 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Dead Dead Girls by Nekesa Afia has a beautifully illustrated cover that caught my eye. I (wrongly) assumed this was a cozy mystery set in the Harlem Renaissance. But it’s a historical mystery about a serial killer murdering Black girls who work or visit speakeasies. The book follows Harlem resident Louise Lloyd who is unintentionally famous for surviving a kidnapping as a teenager. Known as Harlem’s Hero, she rescued her fellow captives. In the present time of the book, she wants to move past all […]

Another Ilona Andrews series has stolen my heart

Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews

White Hot by Ilona Andrews

Wildfire by Ilona Andrews

Diamond Fire by Ilona Andrews

December 28, 2021 by teresaelectro 6 Comments

I discovered Ilona Andrews through Felicia Day’s book club. We read the first Kate Daniels book, Magic Bites. I didn’t quite get hooked, but Cannonball Read made me want to read more. Thanks to Malin, Emmalita, and Jen K for convincing me. I know you didn’t have to twist my arm! I had always planned to read their Hidden Legacy series. I even bought the most recent book last year. It wasn’t until Malin gifted me the first two books for the CBR12 book exchange that […]

Magical love in a small town

Witch Please (Fix It Witches #1) by Ann Aguirre

December 28, 2021 by teresaelectro 2 Comments

I can’t say no to a witch-y romance. I liked Ann Aguirre’s Grimspace, so it was a no-brainer to pre-order Witch Please. I had planned to read it in time for The Ripped Bodice book club. Alas, life got in the way. I did finish it up during the Thanksgiving break. This small-town romance brings together baker Titus and secret witch Danica. Danica lives with her cousin Clem. Together they own a local repair shop where they can practice their special magic to fix broken things. […]
