A WWI-era inspired queer fantasy romance

Witchmark by C.L. Polk

September 11, 2022 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

CBR Bingo: Rec’d I read Witchmark by C.L. Polk for the HEA book club at The Ripped Bodice. In this world, magic is real and only wielded by the nobles. They use it to control the weather and maintain order in society. Anyone who shows the mark of a witch is dangerous and somehow uses evil magic, unlike the nobles. Our protagonist Miles has returned from the war and works at a hospital. The enemy country has surrendered and all the soldiers are coming home. […]

Better late than never to The Brown Sisters series

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

September 11, 2022 by teresaelectro 2 Comments

CBR Bingo: Gaslight – finally have an official #CBR14Bingo! As a lover of romance novels, I’ve been hearing the buzz around The Brown Sisters series by Talia Hibber for quite some time! I finally sat down and read the first book for my Mocha Girls Read book club in January. Get a Life, Chloe Brown starts with Chloe having a brief near-death experience. She makes a list of all the things she’s missed out on in life. She dives in head first by moving out of […]

An unintentional Mercy Thompson reading binge.

Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

August 1, 2022 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

CBR Bingo: Series I usually take my time with my urban fantasy series. I like to savor them and read a few worlds at a time. To not let the reviews pile up (again), I usually read one or two books in a row. Not this go round. I’ve read five in a row for the OG Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. I’ve also fallen in love with the first three books in the spin-off Alpha & Omega series. Once I got going, it […]

A cozy mystery with cute dogs and a bookstore.

The Plot is Murder (Mystery Bookshop #1) by V.M. Burns

July 28, 2022 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

CBR Bingo Square: Cozy I love cozy mysteries anyway I can get ’em. I love to delve into book series as much as I like to marathon Hallmark Murder Mysteries. I grew up on Murder, She Wrote. I still ask my mom what episode she is watching if we’re talking on the phone while she watches. And even better, I get to learn about fun shows at work when we promote Acorn TV. The Plot Is Murder by V.M. Burns kicks off her Mystery Bookshop […]

Toxic Friendships That Lead to Murder

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

July 28, 2022 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

CBR Bingo: Snakes The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley was the December 2021 Mocha Girls Read book club selection. The theme was “snow on the cover”. I’ve heard a bunch of hype around this book. I am also a sucker for a cozy mystery or a thriller tv show. So I was more than a little intrigued. Everyone is a suspect so this works rather nicely for the “Snakes” square. We meet a group of friends who went to Oxford together and are stuck in […]

These Alien Skies

Finishing the Black Stars series

These Alien Skies by C. T. Rwizi

We Travel the Spaceways by Victor LaValle

2043...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be) by Nisi Shawl

July 25, 2022 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

Getting back on my reviews with Cannonball Read 14 Bingo! I liked all three of the remaining stories from the Black Stars anthology. I highly recommend you check them out on audiobook. Bingo Square: Star “These Alien Skies” was my favorite story from this round. Two human space explorers are sent through a wormhole on a mission to find habitable worlds. Before we can really get to know Msizi and Tariro, an accidental explosion (or was it) sends their ship crash landing on a planet […]
