I saw Book Lovers (2022) by Emily Henry in a number of places, including NPR’s Best Books List. It looked like a clever and fun romance novel, and all of the good reviews were encouraging. I found Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez (2022) on NPR’s Best Books List under “eye-opening reads.” It takes place in 1973 Montgomery, Alabama where Civil Townsend, a young black woman of relative wealth starts her first nursing job at a government-run, family planning clinic.
