Back on my Bullshit

Locked in Silence (Pelican Bay, book 1) by Sloane Kennedy

Sanctuary Found (Pelican Bay, book 2) by Sloane Kennedy

The Truth Within (Pelican Bay, book 3) by Sloane Kennedy

This is usually the time of the year, where I suffer from major burnout, and this year is not that much different. That usually means that the only thing I can deal with is media that is relatively light and does not require me to pay too much attention. This often includes playing World of Warcraft, watching a lot of reality shows and reading romance books.  I managed to read this series in three days. While the books are not particularly deep and complex read, […]

Janet Murray predicted Netflix

Hamlet on the Holodeck: The Future of Narrative in Cyberspace by Janet Murray

February 7, 2020 by Professor FluffyKitten Leave a Comment

Digital Media books tend to feel outdated while they are still written. Meaning that by the time the book comes out, the technology that they talk about is already obsolete. There is also the tendency for many of those writers, to see technology and digital media (like video games) as abstract rational systems and try to separate those artifacts from “emotions” and in so separating them from narrative and personal expression.  I am happy to note that, Hamlet on the Holodeck, manages to feel still […]

The economy of art

The $12 Million Stuffed Shark: The Curious Economics of Contemporary Art by Don Thompson

January 31, 2020 by Professor FluffyKitten 2 Comments

Ever since Maurizio Cattelan artwork, the banana that was stuck to a wall with duct tape, was sold for 120K I’ve been fascinated by the art world and the way the art economy works. This mostly meant that I’ve been trying to find information that is somewhat accessible outside of the art world. The $12 Million Stuffed Shark, is probably one of the better resources on the subjects that I found (there is also a pretty good documentary on Netflix called “Blurred Line”).  For the […]

Let’s talk about representation

November 7, 2018 by Professor FluffyKitten Leave a Comment

This is the second book I’ve read this month that presented a healthy consented BDSM relationship between two man, it is also the first romance book I think I ever read that one of the main characters (and the love interest) is aro (aromantic). Ray Van Zeller is the singer of an up-and-coming rock band called Twisted Wishes, after the band drummer quit due to alcoholism (and a big public fight with Ray), the band is desperately looking for a new drummer. Enter Zavier Demos […]

I gave up

September 24, 2018 by Professor FluffyKitten 2 Comments

You know, when I signed up for Cannonball Read last December I had every plan of finally reading some of the reputably excellent books that are sitting in my library just waiting for me to finally read them. I also was planning to read some academic book that I should have read like five years ago (yes , I am looking at you Marshall McLuhan) and some really wonderful comics book I’ve bought over the years and have yet to read. Instead I am mostly […]

I just bought it because of the cover

July 31, 2018 by Professor FluffyKitten 3 Comments

In the last month or so I’ve been dealing with some mental health issues and just couldn’t bring myself to read anything that required a lot of effort or that had any potential to make me upset. I am also not exactly sure how I got a copy of this book (it’s on my phone, so I might have spent too much time browsing the romance section in iBook), but the promise of a gay bodice-ripper romantic novel was just too good not to pick […]
