Another solid re-read

The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson

March 31, 2021 by postcardsandbooks 2 Comments

So I’ve reached the second installment in this trilogy, and I finished almost a month ago and for some reason I have yet to write a review and now the details are slipping from my brain… So lets try this. I enjoyed re-reading this book. It was almost like I was reading it for the first time, because I had honestly wiped the entire thing from my mind. And the funny thing is that again I feel like it’s already slipping away and I haven’t […]

Did Murderbot just get even better?

Artificial Condition by Martha Wells

March 31, 2021 by postcardsandbooks 4 Comments

I didn’t think I was going to like any Murderbot novellas any more than the first one (as I said before, science fiction is not exactly my jam), but somehow Martha Wells did it. I am so happy with this series, and Goodreads just informed me today that book 6 is being published in a month or so and I just want to read all of it. Now. Immediately. I want to not go to work and spend my entire day in Murderbot’s head watching […]

Why can’t my book club ever pick books I like?

The Salt Path by Raynor Winn

March 24, 2021 by postcardsandbooks 4 Comments

I would really like to enjoy at least 1 book that my book club picks. Even the times I choose the book I tend to hate it. I think it’d be nice not to just complain for an hour. Alas, this was not the month. Let me recap our discussion to choose this book. Person 1: I’d like to read a happy book – nothing sad please. Person 2: Can we choose fiction this time? Person 3: What about this book which is the true […]

What the fuck did I just read?

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

March 23, 2021 by postcardsandbooks 6 Comments

So I am not a horror reader, but I am the kind of reader who judges books by their covers. And this book has an absolutely gorgeous cover. I mean, have you seen this? It’s so beautiful. Anyway, I am still in love with the cover regardless of the fact that I am still so confused by what the hell I am actually reading. As I started writing this, I still had a little over 2 1/2 hours to go in the audiobook, but I […]

I read Killing Eve so you don’t have to

Codename Villanelle (Killing Eve #1) by Luke Jennings

February 19, 2021 by postcardsandbooks 3 Comments

A few months ago I finally gave in and watched season 1 of Killing Eve, and I really enjoyed it. Something about Villanelle and Eve’s twisted obsessive relationship was fascinating to me. I’m not caught up to the series, but when the book showed up on an Audible deal, I snatched it up and thought I was in for a fun ride. Turns out, not quite so. Here’s the thing: Codename Villanelle was not originally a novel (which I didn’t discover until after I finished […]

I couldn’t put it down

Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

February 16, 2021 by postcardsandbooks Leave a Comment

This book was a wonderful surprise. I don’t know why I thought this was going to be a YA novel before I picked it up. It might have to do with the fact that the main character is a babysitter but if anyone is under the same misconception as me, be aware this is not YA. It is actually one of the most interesting fiction books I’ve ever read which discuss the different ways racism manifests in people who consider themselves allies. Such a Fun […]
