I never could resist a kissing book, either

Thank you, thank you for my book loot from the lovely Mrs. Julien 🙂 You did an excellent job of choosing, and it’s making it very difficult for things not to skip the queue and wind up next.  Thanks again!

Do You Need Picture Books – Stupid Question: Of Course You Do

December 14, 2015 by NTE Leave a Comment

Buying books for presents is just one of the perks of being an unrepentant bookworm: In addition to my own to-be-read excel worksheets, I keep track of things I’ve read/want to read that I know the people on my gift lists would love, and it all comes in might handy this time of year.  If you’re wondering about somethings to buy, here’s a couple of my most recent books as gift purchases.  This review is specifically for kids books, mostly picture books, but I’ve got […]

For Slightly Older Kids (or Adults Who Like Fun)

December 14, 2015 by NTE 2 Comments

If you’re looking for a book-gift for kids who consider themselves to be too old for picture books (Gasp!), then I’ve got a few recommendations for you: Do you like awesome things? And YouTube? Then you probably know Kid President: Kid President’s Guide to Being Awesome. Kid President is the onscreen name of an amazing kid who has a hilarious & lovely YouTube account.  Robby Novak (Kid President) and Brad Montague (his co-writer and brother-in-law) are the kind of writers/actors that talk in sentences that […]

“And maybe it’s by appropriating our heroines that we become heroines ourselves.”

December 14, 2015 by NTE Leave a Comment

Samantha Ellis’ awesomely named memoir, filtered through her love of books and their leading ladies, is one of my favorite reads of this year. Intertwined with the author’s own backstory are all the books, stories, and heroines that have touched her life somehow – and often more than once. Growing up as a Iraqui Jew in London, it’s not as if Ellis’ life lacked for its own sense of drama, not to mention that her career path as poet, playwright, journalist and author isn’t all […]

(Book 2 announced on her blog as coming soon, just yesterday)

December 4, 2015 by NTE Leave a Comment

Brittany Gibbons’ book Fat Girl Walking is not a diet book.  It’s not a self-help book (although there she shares some very helpful things).  It is a memoir, and an autobiography, and it is funny as hell. Something Brittany Gibbons is good at that I am not, by the way, is cursing in the course of her writing, making it seem natural for f*** to be in every fourth paragraph or so. I am horrible at this. I do not curse all that much anyways […]

“It’s only through sheer force and luck that she’s yet to take over the world.”

December 1, 2015 by NTE 9 Comments

When I heard there was a new Bridgerton book coming out next year, I immediately added it to my TBR pile.  And then decided I needed to take a break from all the new stuff I was reading and do an immediate series re-read.  In case you don’t read historical romance, the Bridgerton family is the star of a series of books written by Julia Quinn, and many of the books are considered some of the best in the genre.  When I want to get […]
