I've tried this three times now and I always fall behind on my reviews. My husband has heard me bemoan this for three years now and has decided to try it himself and the JERK is already AHEAD of me on reviews. Game on.

To Tell You the Truth by Gilly MacMillan

This is another one of my popcorn domestic thrillers. This time, the so-called perfect couple is a best selling murder fiction author and her not-so-bestselling, oh-so-slightly-resentful husband/manager. She is haunted by her little brother’s disappearance when she was a child (that she may or may not be at fault for) and the voice of her main character in her book series, who likes to pop up and chat with her at inconvenient times. This sounds more whimsical then the book actually is. There’s a lot […]

Tawdry domestic thrillers are my popcorn

When I Was You by Amber Garza

January 13, 2021 by NatteringwPride 2 Comments

I have a weakness for domestic thrillers. You know the type- they’re all called The Lie, or the Perfect Husband, or well, When I Was You. It’s always about a so-called perfect family with dark secrets, unreliable narrators and incredibly implausible plots. For some reason, the vast majority of ones I stumble across are written by British women. These are the books I read when I want to shut off my brain, so I go through them pretty fast. This is my latest find- When […]

My first review *GULP*

Poisoned by Jennifer Donnelly

January 13, 2021 by NatteringwPride 8 Comments

I’ve been a long time fan of Jennifer Donnelly, reaching back to when she was writing sprawling historical fiction novels (I reread Tea Rose at least once every couple of years). I was delighted when she ventured into fantasy, especially fairy tale rewrites. Her first attempt- Stepsister (what happens to the so-called wicked stepsisters of Cinderella after she marries her prince)- was awesome. I had high hopes for Poisoned, a take on Sleeping Beauty. Overall? A fun read. Great characters. As always for Donnelly, well-written. […]
