I've tried this three times now and I always fall behind on my reviews. My husband has heard me bemoan this for three years now and has decided to try it himself and the JERK is already AHEAD of me on reviews. Game on.

Siege and Storm- Oh My Lord the Love Interests SUUUCK

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

May 8, 2021 by NatteringwPride 1 Comment

I read the first Grisha book a couple years back, thought it was okay and stopped reading any of them. But then Bardugo wrote Ninth House- her first adult novel. I devoured it and am still eagerly chomping at the bit for a sequel (Oh Lord please, I’ve been….mediocre….please let that be enough to get us a sequel). I figured, since I liked that so much and the Grisha series is so popular, maybe I should give it another try. I think the key to […]

The Relentless Moon- Otherwise Known As I Totally Get Why This Series Keeps Getting Nominated for Hugos

The Relentless Moon by Mary Robinette Kowal

May 8, 2021 by NatteringwPride Leave a Comment

The Lady Astronaut series is based around a very simple concept- Shortly after President Thomas Dewey leads the United States to victory in the space race in 1952, a meteorite strikes the Chesapeake Bay, obliterating most of the Eastern Seaboard. In the aftermath, mathematician and former WASP pilot Elma York calculates that the resulting climate change will make the planet uninhabitable within 50 years. This threat accelerates efforts to colonize space and leads to Elma joining the International Aerospace Coalition in its attempt to reach, first the Moon, then Mars. The rest of the series is about […]

Calculated Risks- Seanan McGuire Does It Again (I love everything she writes and seriously doubt I will ever write a negative review about one of her books. #biased)

Calculated Risks by Seanan McGuire

May 8, 2021 by NatteringwPride Leave a Comment

I’ve got another Seanan McGuire for y’all. This one is the latest installment of her Incryptid series. The basic premise of the Incryptid books is- what if all the urban legends and myths about creatures and magic were real? What if there was an entire cryptid community living under the noses of humanity? And what if there was an order devoted to wiping those creatures out- sentient or no, peaceful or no? And what if a family broke away from that order and devoted themselves […]

The Only Good Indians- Atmosphere for DAAAAYYYYSSSS

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

May 8, 2021 by NatteringwPride 3 Comments

The Only Good Indians has been on my too- read shelf for at least a year now (I got an ARC and then promptly forgot to read it until after the book had been published). Then, someone on Cannonball reviewed it and reminded me how excited I was to read it originally- so here we are. The only Good Indians is about a group of friends and former friends literally haunted by a shameful act from their past. I am hesitating to describe more because […]

Across the Green Grass Fields- Yeesssss Seanan YEEESSSSSSS

Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire

January 23, 2021 by NatteringwPride 2 Comments

Goddammit Seanan McGuire you’ve done it again. There’s a reason she’s one of my all time favorite authors and it’s because she never fails to disappoint. Seanan has a few different series, all of which I love. Across the Green Grass Fields belongs to her Doorway novellas. Essentially, Seanan created a meta fiction for all of those stories of kids stumbling into other worlds and having adventures. In her universe, children find their doors. These doors, if entered, sweep the child away to one of […]

Disappointing Domestic Thriller- try saying that 10x fast

The Last Mrs. by Mary Kubika

January 23, 2021 by NatteringwPride Leave a Comment

Oh domestic thrillers. You give and you take. The Last Mrs. mostly took. I had the secondary plot twist figured out in the first quarter of the book, and the big plot twist became pretty clear about halfway through. The characters made NO sense, and neither did the twists in the plot. These novels always require a relative suspension of disbelief, but good GOD the main character was annoying and irresponsible. None of the other characters were all that good either- everyone was cartoonishly evil […]
