Good evening, everyone. I'm Leslie Monster, and this is Nightline. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: narfna's Quick Questions interview.)

narfna's Reviews:

Another fight to the death book, pretty good.

All of Us Villains (All of Us Villains, #1) by Amanda Foody & Christine Lynn Herman

September 26, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

The end of this was messy, but overall I liked it. Really wishing for half-stars on this one. ELEVEN DAYS LATER: Okay, now that I’m actually sitting down to write this review, I’ve decided to round down on this one because the ending really killed my buzz. It was just so messy, I’m not even sure how to explain it. The premise here is that there is a town where every twenty years or so, there is a tournament, the family of the tournament winner […]

Going Postal (Discworld, #33) by Terry Pratchett

September 26, 2022 by narfna 2 Comments

Why I always gotta review these five-star Terry Pratchett books??? Unlike with a lot of Pratchett books I give five stars to, I can’t really justify this one with much of a deeper meaning. I just had a really good time with it, and the premise and main character really tickled me. Our “hero” is Moist Von Lipwig, a con man and thief who starts the novel being hanged for his crimes. He manages to survive the hanging, and the tyrannical Lord Vetinari offers him […]

This book was wild.

The Blood Trials (The Blood Gift Duology, #1) by N.E. Davenport

September 6, 2022 by narfna 2 Comments

This is most definitely adult fantasy. It is very, very adult, and not in the sexy way (though there is a pretty good sexy scene in here). Nope, it’s adult more like in the gory, stomach-turning way (though these scenes are spread out). So be prepared for that. But this was a very promising debut! Not everything worked perfectly for me, but I was very compelled by the story, and read this not-small book in about two days flat. This is a hybrid fantasy/science fiction […]

Not the surefire hit I thought it would be.

Stay Awake by Megan Goldin

September 2, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

Thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the ARC. It hasn’t affected the content of my review. I’m as surprised as anyone that I didn’t really like this. It wasn’t a bad read, and there were parts I really liked, but a large part of this book just felt extremely frustrating to me, rather than the intriguing and unsettling the author was going for (I think). Stay Awake kicks off with our MC, Liv, waking up in a taxi with no memory of how she got there, and […]

Everybody else seems to *hate* this, but I really liked it!

Hide by Kiersten White

September 2, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

I honestly don’t understand where all the one-star reviews are coming from. This was fine! Not the best thing I’ve ever read, but solid. I get that not every person is going to like every book, and that’s as it should be, but the overwhelming hatred for this frankly baffles me. Like, I’m not gonna get angry about it, just make this face: People be throwing around the phrase “worst book I’ve read all year!” and I’m like . . . really? This books right […]

“There was a button,” Holden said. “I pushed it.” “Jesus Christ. That really is how you go through life, isn’t it?”

Nemesis Games (The Expanse, #5) by James S.A. Corey

September 2, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

Once again, I find myself rushing to complete this review before I can allow myself to start my re-read of book six. This book was just as good as I remembered, and in fact, I actually think it was better. I noticed so many things this time around that I didn’t before, when I was just focused on, basically, OMG WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. (Something you can only notice on a series re-read: SPOILERS They really hit it hard that Amos would be the “Last […]
