I love listening to Agatha Christie books when it’s cold outside. It’s so cozy and comforting and British. This one didn’t disappoint, although it’s not my favorite of hers so far. The dead body found in the library conceit was old even back in 1941 when The Body in the Library was first published. Good old Agatha got ahold of it and decided to make it her own. There is indeed a body found in a library at the start of this book, but in quite […]
This was a terrible book.
I mentioned in my review of the first volume of Grounded that I hadn’t read a Superman comic since at least 1997, so this series being my first in that span of time is in retrospect, a tragedy. This book is not good. It makes me question whether or not they even make Superman comics that are good. I have some ostensibly good ones on my TBR list, but as far as I have actual knowledge, Superman in comics is boring, pompous, overwritten, and stupid. […]
HO HO HO.
“IT’S THE EXPRESSION ON THEIR LITTLE FACES I LIKE, said the Hogfather. ‘You mean sort of fear and awe and not knowing whether to laugh or cry or wet their pants?’ YES. NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL BELIEF.” “YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES. ‘So we can believe the big ones?’ YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.” — This is my favorite Discworld book in quite some time. It’s just so good! It’s not as quippy or […]
“WORDS IN THE HEART CAN’T BE TAKEN.”
Awwwwww. I didn’t expect to feel so heartwarmed over a Discworld book, but damn if this book didn’t me feel all fuzzy inside. I’m just such a sucker for stories about, well, what this book is about. SPOILERSSS. So this is a City Watch book, and that means several things: Captain Samuel Vimes doing good deeds and being very grouchy about it, Carrot being overly literal and good at his job while everyone likes him with no effort on his part whatsoever, and the other […]
Re-reading Rainbow.
[I originally reviewed this book for CBR5. My review can be found HERE.] So I gave into my baser impulses and dove back into my very first Rainbow Rowell book again for the first time since I read it back in February 2013. Audible is the devil and had a $5 sale a couple of months ago, and this was up in there, so I bought it. It was only a matter of time before I gave in. Happy to report this book is just […]
Everything you ever wanted to know about Star Wars.
Listen up, nerds. This book is for you. I had never heard of it until I read the lovely Emmalita’s review, and now I am eternally grateful to her. I absolutely devoured this book. It’s one of the most thorough and interesting behind the scenes books I’ve ever read. I’ve been all up in Star Wars since I was sixteen, but reading this book made me realize I really only knew the story part of that galaxy far, far away (including the Expanded Universe of novels). […]
