Good evening, everyone. I'm Leslie Monster, and this is Nightline. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: narfna's Quick Questions interview.)

Guys, read this book. I mean it.

So I read this book in almost exactly 24 hours. My book club picked The Unseen World, at my suggestion, and so of course I waited until the last minute to start it. Don’t know why I did that. It was so good. And I never would have picked it up without book club (even though I suggested it), so thank goodness for book clubs. Anyways, I started it yesterday at 10 AM, got through a little over half by bedtime, then woke up early […]

Thanks to the CBR romance readers hive mind for this one.

This is another one of those books I probably wouldn’t have touched were it not for the online book reviewing community. Specifically, all of you fellow romance-reading reviewers here at CBR, who read and reviewed Kulti to pieces starting late last year. I’d never even heard of Mariana Zapata until y’all started raving over this book. I’ve learned to trust our collective hive mind over the years, so I picked this up with one of my Audible credits earlier this year, and decided to save […]

Fascinating YA sci-fi dystopia, needs a little work on the characters.

Various internet peoples have been telling me to read Neal Shusterman for years now, and with Scythe he finally published a book whose premise I couldn’t resist, so here we are. If the rest of his books are as well thought out as this one was, they’re definitely getting moved up my TBR. Scythe takes place several hundred years in the future, after humanity has conquered mortality and disease*, and humans are functionally immortal. But having humanity immortal but still procreating creates an obvious problem. […]

This book was SO MUCH FUN. I want to read it again.

I started this book at lunch yesterday, got sixty pages in, and then read the rest of it in a frenzy as soon as I got home from work. I even forgot to eat dinner. Guys, I NEVER forget to eat dinner. I’m thinking about what I’m going to eat for dinner immediately after lunch is over. Sometimes lunch the day before. I mean, I did eventually remember to eat, but only after I finished the book around 8:30. Only the really good books make […]

Didn’t hate this one, so at least there’s that.

So I had this huge brilliant review* for this book, which I stupidly wrote in the review space over on Goodreads, and upon being two sentences away from finishing it, my browser decided to to go non-responsive, crashed and deleted the whole thing. I will note that this ONLY ever happens to me while using Internet Explorer on computers that aren’t mine. Why does anyone have a computer that has nothing but IE? WHY. What terrible person makes these decisions? I hope they regret everything. *It wasn’t brilliant. I’m […]

If you love Our Lady of Skepticism, don’t read this.

I mean, I hate to be that person, but Hashtag Not My Scully (#NotMyScully). I wasn’t precisely looking forward to this book, despite being the owner of a beyond huge X-Files obsession that permeated my adolescence, but it seemed like a fun idea, if executed properly. I wasn’t as worried for the Mulder one in this pair of books, because his story as a teenager practically writes itself. Also, Kami Garcia seemed like a good choice. She knows the genre, and is successful in it. […]
