I heard almost immediately from friends and friends of friends that this was really sad, so I waited months to read it, when normally I’m all over new Saga like cat hair on black pants. It’s like, I get there are going to be sad installments of this series. I do. This is the story of Hazel’s life from beginning, to, well, I don’t know if they’ll end with her being old, but certainly with her as an adult. And there is no way that […]
Going to give this series one more chance, and then I’m out.
I feel like this series is just getting more confusing the longer it goes, and I am less and less interested. It also continues to be overly bleak with no humor at all to lighten it up. The art continues to be gorgeous. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me. It’s been a couple of months (I think) between actually reading it and writing this review, but I seem to recall a pirate ship adventure, and nobody trusting Maika at all, and the monster inside […]
Pssst, Cannonballers. Read this book, I think you will like it a lot.
“If you want the motivation back, you must feed it. Feed it everything. Books, television, movies, paintings, stage plays, real-life experience. Sometimes feeding simply means working, working through nonmotivation, working even when you hate it. We create art for many reasons—wealth, fame, love, admiration—but I find the one thing that produces the best results is desire. When you want the thing you’re creating, the beauty of it will shine through, even if the details aren’t all in order. Desire is the fuel of creators, and […]
KORRA IS BACK AND I AM ALL CAPS EXCITED ABOUT IT.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I miss Legend of Korra so freaking much. Every couple of years, I get this insatiable urge to rewatch Avatar: The Last Airbender, and ever since Korra ended in 2014, I’ve folded them in together as one big rewatch. I find them both so lovely and comforting and fun and beautiful. I’ve also been reading Gene Luen Yang’s official comics continuations of Aang and the gang, and really enjoying them, so you bet your ass when […]
The one with the horror convention.
Most of this book is muchly good, but I do have one substantial complaint. But more on that later. As I re-read this series, I continue to enjoy it much more than I did the first time through. I’m not going to rehash why (combo of knowing all the characters now and where they end up, along with catching things I didn’t the first time through). Just assume the same things I’ve said for books four through seven also apply here. Most of this book […]
Animorphs twofer: One very silly, one very not.
Apparently instant oatmeal (maple ginger instant oatmeal, to be precise) is like Yeerk heroin, so the Animorphs decide to run a mission down to the Yeerk pool, and see how many Yeerks they can get addicted to it (a process which eventually drives them mad). Man, just typing it out like that makes me feel like their whole plan was super fucked up, and the fact that no one really put up more than a token resistance to it is NOT a good sign for […]
