Good evening, everyone. I'm Leslie Monster, and this is Nightline. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: narfna's Quick Questions interview.)

narfna's Reviews:

My first cozy mystery.

A Quiet Life in the Country (Lady Hardcastle Mysteries, #1) by T E Kinsey

April 10, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

Yet another book where I really just want a 3.5 star rating. I liked it more than three stars, but I didn’t like it enough for four. This was a fun, cozy little mystery set in England in 1908. It follows Florence “Flo” Armstrong, our narrator, who is a servant of the Lady Emily Hardcastle, but she and her employer have a singular relationship. They are more like friends than employer and employee, due to events that happened in their mysterious past, a past which […]

I have no idea what I was expecting from this book, but it for sure wasn’t this wackiness.

The Spellman Files (The Spellmans, #1) by Lisa Lutz

April 10, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was wacky and fun, but also mildly emotionally exhausting. Constant wackiness takes it out of you. For the second time in one day, I find myself wishing for half stars. I’m not even going to try and sum up the plot/premise of this book, because it is a futile endeavor. But also, half the fun is not knowing what’s about to happen. Actually, that’s a lie. I did try and sum it up, and everything I typed sounded vile, and also spoiled things. So […]

A graphic memoir about pregnancy, but worth reading even if you don’t want to ever be pregnant.

Kid Gloves: Nine Months of Careful Chaos by Lucy Knisley

April 10, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

I always feel the same way when I finish a new Lucy Knisley book. It’s so weird to have followed her since the very beginning of her career (through a stroke of luck, I’ve followed her blog from the beginning, before she published a book, because a friend also followed her), to essentially watch her life progress without having spoken a single word to her. (This is especially true since I started following her on Instagram after her son was born. She’s been posting lots […]

A pretty good second book; I hope she has an easier time with #3!

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

April 4, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

This was a bit rough (you can tell she struggled to write it, and Darcy as a character sort of reflects a little of that desperation), but I thought it was charming and entertaining, maybe moreso because of that roughness. Full disclosure, though, I read almost all of this while sitting and waiting to (not) be picked for jury duty, so that may have affected my reading of it. Also, it has now been a month since I’ve read this, I’ve probably forgotten things. I […]

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter, #3) by J.K. Rowling

April 1, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

Oh, wow, so it’s been a month since I read this. Good thing I’ve read it five billion times; my reactions are always fresh and ready to go! And also I took pictures of all the quotes I wanted to talk about. This review is not quite the 10,000 words as requested, but I suppose it will do. (I anticipate my review of Goblet of Fire to be monstrous.) I just needed to get this done before I started the next one on 4/1. Ooh, […]

I think I just wanted this to be a novel.

Once Ghosted, Twice Shy (Reluctant Royals, #2.5) by Alyssa Cole

March 28, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

I liked this little novella less upon finishing it than I do now. It’s been a month since I finished it; should have written a review at the time. Story of my life, print it on a t-shirt. But in fairness to me, I was a bit distracted that weekend from the annual wonderfest known as the Tucson Festival of Books, a beautiful celebration of literacy and imagination and yummy food that is always held on or near my birthday, so happy birthday to me. […]
