Good evening, everyone. I'm Leslie Monster, and this is Nightline. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: narfna's Quick Questions interview.)

narfna's Reviews:

I read this book three months ago. It was great!

The Austen Playbook (London Celebrities, #4) by Lucy Parker

July 11, 2019 by narfna 6 Comments

This was almost a five star read for me. I’ve been trying to catch up on my enormous backlog of reviews, and when I picked this up to give myself a refresher (it’s been almost three months since I finished it), I ended up sort of revisiting it for a couple of hours. You know, not a full re-read, but just sort of lovingly scrolling through it and re-reading favorite bits. But for some reason I still can’t quite bring myself to give it the […]

The end for G. Willow Wilson, but not for Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel, Vol. 10: Time and Again by G. Willow Wilson

June 27, 2019 by narfna 4 Comments

And so marks the end of G. Willow Wilson’s tenure on Ms. Marvel, something she thought wouldn’t last beyond a handful of issues, but has now gone on for seven years, and Kamala herself is flourishing at large in the Marvel Comics universe—or so I’ve heard, because I just can’t with superhero comics for the most part. They are too interconnected and I can’t read them all, it’s impossible, so I will read almost none of them instead. I have been making an exception for […]

Underwhelming, hopefully the Netflix show is better.

The Last Wish (The Witcher, #1) by Andzrej Sapkowski

June 26, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

I had this already on my TBR before they announced the Netflix adaptation, but it wasn’t a huge priority. I figured I would get to it eventually, along with all the other fantasy series I’ve got on there (which I feel like is all of them). But I did want to check it out when I heard about the show, because I do like to try when possible to have read at least the first couple of books in a series before watching an adaptation. […]

“It would please him well enough to amount to no more in the end than a single great organ of detection, reaching into blankness for a clue.”

The Final Solution by Michael Chabon

June 24, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

Not what I was expecting! Actually, I’m not sure I was expecting anything? This little novella is Chabon’s homage to Sherlock Holmes, though his “old man” is never actually named in the story. It’s 1944, and our old man who may or may not definitely be a retired Sherlock Holmes, is living in Sussex, keeping his bees, and coming to terms with old age and a world that has moved on. This part of the story worked extremely well for me. It was so poignant […]

A sweet coming of age and coming out romance.

Heartstopper, Vol. 1 by Alice Oseman

June 24, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

I happened to see someone I don’t even follow review the webcomic version of this lovely little story one Saturday. Someone in my feed had liked their review; they had included a link. I clicked it. I then spent the next couple of hours feverishly reading through it, until I finally had caught up with the latest post. I think that was about a year ago, and it’s still going. You wouldn’t do wrong by yourself to buy this hard copy, or the second volume […]

My main issue with this book is that I just wanted more of it!

A Duke in Disguise (Regency Imposters, #2) by Cat Sebastian

June 24, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

I’m having trouble with this one! On the one hand, I liked it. On the other, I thought it needed just a little something else. I never really cared the way I should have, the way I’ve cared about her other characters in past books. Verity Plum is a publisher and bookseller; John Ashby is an engraver. They have known one another for ages, and always a low-simmering attraction they’ve both ignored has been present. Both for different reasons have been scared to change their […]
