Two Rogues Make a Right (Seducing the Sedgwicks, #3) by Cat Sebastian

August 31, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

If you’re looking for a plot- or angst- or action-heavy romance, this won’t satisfy you, but if you’re looking for something slow and sweet, where two lifelong friends slowly come together while one nurses the other back to health, than this is your book. Martin and Will have been best friends since childhood. Will grew up slightly neglected in a rather bohemian household that was falling into ruin. Martin’s father was a first class asshole, who also turned out to be an abuser (see the […]

Needed more groveling.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

August 31, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

Mixed feelings about this one! Overall, I liked it. Parts of it I liked a lot. Other parts made me hopping mad. The premise of this book is extremely silly, but the authors manage to make it work, and ground it in something real, so that’s always fun to have happen. Olive Torres is an identical twin, and her sister Ami is getting married. Olive also hates her sister’s husband’s brother, Ethan, and they have disliked each other for years. Due to food allergies and […]

I liked this a lot better than her last book, but Jasmine Guillory and I might be about to part ways.

Party of Two (The Wedding Date, #5) by Jasmine Guillory

August 27, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

NB: I received a free copy of the ARC from Netgalley and Berkeley, but that has not affected the content of my review. This was a perfectly fine romance. Certainly it was leaps and bounds better than her last book, which felt rushed and forced. But Party of Two was missing the spark for me that her earlier stuff had, particularly the second book in this series, The Proposal, which is my favorite of hers. Our two main characters, Olivia and Max, are very cute […]

A sweet telenovela romance.

You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria

Thanks to Netgalley and Avon for an ARC of this book! This was fun! I liked but didn’t love her first book. This one worked much better for me. I loved the telenovela TV set background. I really liked both characters, and thought they had great chemistry with each other. The secondary characters could have used some rounding out, but the book was pretty short, so there might not have been time. I would actually have liked this to be longer so it could be […]

“Being poor, living in poverty, seemed a lot like probation – the crime being a lack of means to survive.”

Maid by Stephanie Land

August 27, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was good, but I’m not going to shout to the rooftops over it. I can’t say I was really disappointed by expectations on this one, because I didn’t have any. It was only until about halfway through that I found myself wishing the book was something else, and that’s not the author’s fault. The cover and blurb are sort of misleading. This isn’t a book about what it’s like to be a maid, with hard-hitting social criticism or research. It’s a straight-up memoir about […]

The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin

August 26, 2020 by narfna 14 Comments

I was too young to know anything that was going on when O.J. Simpson was arrested and tried for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her very unlucky friend Ron Goldman. I remember it being all adults talked about (most of it going way over my head). I remember the night of the car chase, because it interrupted T.G.I.F. on ABC, and I was trash for T.G.I.F. as a nine year old, even though it was June and all my shows must […]
