Help Make This Year’s Donation Even Bigger

November 29, 2016 by MsWas Leave a Comment

It’s #GivingTuesday, a day where we can recover from all the crazy spending and shopping after Thanksgiving and see where we can give back and make a difference. Normally at this time of year, I’d ask for help to keep this place running. But thanks to a donation in September from Eric and Tamara Yollick, our website hosting has been paid for through Cannonball Read 9! This is what the message with their donation said: We enjoy reading the reviews on your site. We have […]

Quick Questions with a Cannonballer: Malin

November 17, 2016 by MsWas 11 Comments

How many times have you participated in CBR? I’ve actually taken part since the start of November 2009, right when Cannonball Read II started. Back then the goal was to read 100 books, and checking back through my blog, I reached that goal by the end of October. I think I may be one of the participants who have kept going the longest, but it wasn’t until Cannonball Read III that I actually started reviewing absolutely every book I read. By then I’d realised that […]

It’s time for our Cannonball Holiday Tradition – Book Exchange!

November 16, 2016 by MsWas 14 Comments

Katie (faintingviolet) has offered to handle the organization of the exchange for 2016. You can email her directly with any questions and to sign up (see the directions below). The CBR Book Exchange is completely voluntary, but it’s a lovely part of our community here at CBR and a great way to get to know a fellow Cannonballer a little bit better. Not to mention that it provides a great  excuse to purchase something via the Cannonball Read Buy Hole. Remember, 100% of the percentages generated through […]

Quick Questions with a Cannonballer: faintingviolet

October 20, 2016 by MsWas 10 Comments

Today’s interview is with our own book club maven, faintingviolet! How many times have you participated in CBR? My first Cannonball was in 2012 for CBR4, so five years. I had been a lurker on Pajiba for about two years and I finally got up the courage to sign up. I’m so glad I did, I love our little community. Has being a participant changed the way you read? If so, how? I’d say yes in a pretty big way. It got me back into […]

We Like Banned Books and We Cannot Lie

September 30, 2016 by MsWas 3 Comments

The list of the American Library Association’s Top Ten Most Frequently Challenged Books of the 21st Century reads like a Best of Cannonball Read list. That’s no surprise, really. With books like To Kill a Mockingbird, The Color Purple, Of Mice and Men, the Harry Potter series, and our most recent book club selection, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, those lists include many wonderful books that we’ve loved and recommended time and again. From CBR4 in 2012 through the end of August […]
