I have failed every Cannonball Read that I've ever participated in, except my very first one. I am consistent, I'll give myself that much.

Morel Dilemma: He Just Couldn’t Resist the Cap

The Beauty by Aliya Whiteley

May 13, 2025 by Melina Leave a Comment

Hey friends! Guess what? This is my first Cannonball Read review of the year…I’m a little behind. Hahaha…have no fear, I’ve read a lot of books and I’m almost done with teaching for the year so my own Cannonball challenge will be, can I catch up with the review part?!?! Stay tuned! This book though…this book brought me out of review hibernation because I kept trying to think of cool titles for my review.  Some of the discarded ones were: I’m a Fungi: Tales of […]

Let’s get Stabby!

The Traitors by C.A Lynch

May 7, 2024 by Melina Leave a Comment

Many years ago the town of Rock Hill was shocked when three teenagers were killed by a stranger wielding an ax in an abandoned mansion, only one girl survived.  Now six people receive mysterious letters inviting them back to the mansion and a chance to split a million dollars if they can survive the night. Some of the invitees have ties to the murder, such as Lolly, the sole survivor of the massacre.  Also invited was the disgraced police officer who accidently killed an innocent […]

Growing and Changing: Exposure to Toxins Will Do That

Wilder Girls by Rory Power

April 30, 2024 by Melina Leave a Comment

I’m pretty sure I purchased this book when it first came out. The only problem was, I purchased it as an Spanish language ebook and I don’t speak or read Spanish.  I tried to fight with Barnes & Noble about an exchange but gave up quickly.  When I saw the opportunity to purchase it on a discount just recently, I took it.  The cover intrigued me just as it did when I first purchased it, and the summary was equally tantalizing. The book begins after […]

Still See You Everywhere by Lisa Gardner

April 30, 2024 by Melina Leave a Comment

I don’t believe I’ve ever read a Lisa Gardner book before, but this one was pretty good! When I purchased it, I didn’t realize that it’s actually the third in a series following main character, Frankie Elkin, who is a self taught expert on finding missing persons.  The trouble is, she hasn’t been finding them alive lately and she could really use a win.  This is about the same time she’s contacted to assist in finding a woman’s sister.  The woman in question? “The Beautiful […]

They’re All My Friends, And They Died…

Long Bright River by Liz Moore

April 24, 2024 by Melina 5 Comments

I haven’t ugly cried over a book in a hot minute, but man, I sure ugly cried over this one.  This is one of those books that everyone recommends to you and for whatever reason you dig your feet in that it’s probably not going to be for you but you politely say, “Thanks for the recommendation” and then go on about reading anything but that book.  Does anyone else do that? And then invariably, when you sit down to read the book that your […]

Beware the Sigma Males

The Last Word by Taylor Adams

March 23, 2024 by Melina 2 Comments

CW: Suicidal ideation, it’s lightly alluded to in the beginning and then addressed later in the book. There are a few others that I can’t tell you because they are massive book spoilers. If you have specifics, I’d google them first before reading the book. Oh man, I wish I could’ve ended up loving this book, I was in love with it at first…here’s the premise.  A woman is housesitting at a fairly isolated beach house after a traumatic car accident that was fatal, and also […]
