I have a complicated relationship with Kelley Armstrong novels. On one had I tend to love the world building and the main character. On the other, well she has TERRIBLE male leads and her track record with female characters aside from the lead is problematic. It’s those second two that keep her from being an author that I goes directly onto my auto buy list. However, Omens went onto my TBR pile after I read a short story, a prequel of sorts, called The Screams […]
Apparently I’m too old for this book.
I did not read this when I was in my teens, and I’m afraid my reading experience suffered for that. I hated everything about this book, from the plodding storyline to the writing to the cardboard characters. Nothing worked. The Sword of Shannara is often written off as a Lord of the Rings copy, and while I didn’t like the book I don’t think that’s especially fair. It absolutely has similarities and I can see where that criticism is coming from, but I don’t think […]
Children of the Corn
This is the final book in Chuck Wendig’s Heartland Trilogy. And there is a part of me that is very glad to be finally done, but I don’t want you to think I didn’t enjoy it, because I did. I think I mentioned in a previous review, I am not fond of Wendig’s writing style, and so while I enjoyed the novel it just wasn’t my favorite. Honestly, I think if this ever gets turned into a movie I will eat it up. I loved […]
Well…. the cupcakes sounded tasty…
I didn’t hate this novel, but I also can’t give it more then one star. It’s badly written and badly in need of an editor. The writing was so frustratingly bad that I would just shake my kindle in annoyance (I’m not throwing it across the room, I like my kindle). There were some redeeming factors: it was free, there were werewolves, and there were more then a few female characters. The plot is a fairly standard plot for the first novel in an urban fantasy […]
I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even put a stopper on death.
This is a well written fantasy novel, the world building is very well thought out and presented nicely, the characters are well rounded and interesting. This book should have been catnip for me, and yet it was a chore to read. I was stuck in a blizzard and I still had trouble forcing myself to read this one. I just found myself so bored by it. I’d be reading a passage and my mind would start to wander to other things. I had the same issue […]
Wings of Fire. DRAGONS!DRAGONS!
Escaping Peril is the eighth book in the Wings of Fire series, which you do need to read before getting to this one as the story is pretty much continuous throughout the novels. Wings of Fire is a middle-grade series, suitable for those youngsters just starting to read chapterbooks, and is absolutely delightful. I devoured the seven books that were out one Saturday back in August of last year. The books follow a group of dragonets who believe themselves to be the dragonets of prophecy and […]
