This is one of the most popular books on this site, and it’s one I’ve been meaning to get around to. Bingo was the perfect opportunity to kick me in the butt and start it for the So Poplular slot. That said, while I see that it’s one of the more popular books on the site I could not get past the icky plot. Rowell is a fantastic writer. Her characters are very well drawn and engaging. I honestly felt for every single one. However, […]
Use the Very Best Vanilla
I spent a while trying to decide which book I was going to review for the Delicious slot on my Bingo card. I knew I wanted to do a cookbook, because I have a lot of them and I love reading and rereading them cover to cover. I thought about doing one of my newer acquisitions, but the truth is that while I love them and have read them I haven’t really cooked from them. I think that if you’re going to do a cookbook […]
Curiosity, old bean. Curiosity every time.
This is one of the books read and reviewed by AlabamaPink in the first Cannonball Read, so obviously this is going to go in that the AlabamaPink slot on my bingo card. To be honest, when I was selecting a book for this slot it was more “well, this one looks least objectionable” rather then “ooh, that one looks fun”. I suspect that Ms. AlabamaPink had very different tastes then I. I’m going to write this review and then go over and read what she […]
Dandelions Grow Strong in the Harshest Conditions
The Grace of Kings has been on my radar for some time now, and though I was excited about it I wanted to wait a little bit in order to have a chance at getting the whole series at once instead of waiting, forever, between books. I didn’t quite make it, the second book is out but the third is not. Ah well, such is life. Anyway, this book was featured on Unbound World’s list of 100 best fantasy novels of all time, making it […]
Do not shame me for knowledge that has been denied me.
This was a hard book to finish, and I’m not sure why I insisted on completing it as I really have no problem abandoning books halfway through. I did persevere though, and I think I’m glad I did? I ended up liking the book more then I thought I was going to, but I’m not sure if it was worth the slog. The book was introduced to me on Abigail Nussbaum’s blog Asking the Wrong Questions. I’ve found quite few books I’ve enjoyed through her […]
It is impossible. But it is not ridiculous.
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a 2010 Newbery Honor Book, meaning it was nominated for the award but lost to When You Reach Me. It fills the Snubbed slot on my bingo card for that reason. And guys, I um… I think it’s a better book then When You Reach Me. I read and reviewed When You Reach Me earlier this year, and while I thought it was fine I didn’t love it. And it might be because this book hits me where […]
